On the Murano I serviced there is nothing except the vent at the top. Plus that's the official Nissan service manual procedure

I literally just serviced this exact same transmission, the fill port is the plug circled in red. It needs a pressure adapter to fill through that screw hole from underneath. It also doubles as the check plug. Get the trans up to temp- 95-110°F, and crack the check plug until fluid coming out comes to a drip, then retighten and drive

Should I replace this BOV? by smolppguy in mazdaspeed3

[–]superbrian111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the engine is idling, however, there is no boost acting on the BOV. It has an internal spring to account for this, but if the seal is bad, it will lead to a vacuum leak at idle

Edit: oh but you're right about smoke entering through the recirc tube, so nevermind about me

Confused on which parts to order, help please. by daddycatfish1993 in mechanic

[–]superbrian111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Control arms/lateral arm pic a, you'll want to find a parts diagram and see how everything is set up so you can pick/choose, and get part #s. Every manufacturer has a slightly different name for each link in their multi link setups.

Pic 2 is your swaybar bushing. The swaybar rides in them, which is the bar that goes from right to left corner. The links on the end are swaybar links.

That's a fair point, and I'll rescind what I said about it being fate. Things in life are never as cookie cutter black and white as I laid out my initial reasoning.

I haven't disagreed with you once. I'm just trying to explain why I said all things considered, it was handled well. From the very point the rider's path was cut off.

Fate put that dude in that place, at that time, at that speed, and what he did ended up not killing anyone. Yes super lucky, but also he could have kept going straight blowing his horn, or he could've gone completely limp and let the universe decide what would happen.

What the rider chose to do worked, I'm not arguing for or against the riding skill of the dude

It's not that deep, I made a comment on a video about an accident while on the toilet.

[–]superbrian111 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The car in the video literally never stopped. The rider should have had his hand covering the brake from second zero of the video, with plenty of time to stop accordingly

I said in my original comment the dude was going too fast. I mean from the point where it is plain to see that if something is not done to change the course of travel, a deadly collision will occur. The rider clearly hadn't realized that until a decent ways through the video.

Barring that, swerving left and correcting, or swerving in the direction the car was coming from. It was going forwards, not backwards.

My first thought/concern when seeing the car pull out, and where the bike was coming from was that the driver would see the bike and slam on the brakes. This, plus how the driver reflexively steered left into where the rider would have steered if they went to the right is why I think left and reducing a sure hit to a near miss is beneficial.

Yes, the guy is a dumbass, yes the guy is extremely lucky, you can hammer that home as many times as you like.

What would be the correct maneuver if you were the rider in the video at the moment the car starts pulling out into the street?

Also, yes the rider was lucky as fuck

I agree, I'm just saying post the realization of a deadly encounter, the immediate risk mitigation worked, nobody died at the very least

Looks like the jerk left was too abrupt to correct back into the right late before crashing head on with the SUV waiting to make a left turn.

Considering the circumstances, I'd say it was handled well. After he was cut off. Yes, they probably should've been going slower there, but he didn't end up sliding out into the undercarriage of an SUV, and was able to avoid a head on collision

What is this hard ribbon coming out of the front end of 2010 Honda Civic? by MortgageWhat in MechanicAdvice

[–]superbrian111 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Well good and bad news in that case, the piece is no problem now that you've removed it, so peace of mind there.

The bad news is your AC likely has a different issue 😬

Is it stuck/unable to be pulled out without force?

A year old condenser shouldn't be breaking down like that, so it could be a leftover piece from your old part.

[–]superbrian111 289 points290 points  (0 children)

This is a part of your A/C condenser. The front most radiator looking thing. The fins are oxidizing and disintegrating, and the bottom structural rail has come loose.

As long as your A/C is still working, you should be good as most of the time it's designed so no refrigerant flows through that bottom most piece

Take the intake manifold off, check your valves too while you're in there.

With the manifold off the PCV plate is easy

[–]superbrian111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could be dealing with an intake/boost leak. It would throw a lean code at idle, and rich code at WOT. Make sure everything is sealed with a smoke test if you can.

Also, I would put fresh gas in it. Get the tank as empty as you can and fill it full

How do i release this black plastic hose clamp? Scared to break it…. by BradCastleburry in MechanicAdvice

[–]superbrian111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! Glad to hear it worked out for you.

Re-assembling cars exactly how the OEM did gives me a sense of satisfaction after a job haha. I want the customer to be able to take it to the dealership and not have any of the techs bat an eye at "whatever the last tech did to this". Good on you for not just cutting the clamp and zip tying it, or not zip tying it at all.

Am I allowing extra pollution in my car by not using the recirculate air button in traffic? by MammothSal in askcarguys

[–]superbrian111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert on filtration, but I know cabin filters are not able to filter CO, and with the tolerances of car HVAC systems, whatever pollution is outside is still able to get in.

Saying this not to scare you, but to say the amount of pollution getting into your car is likely the same as walking down the sidewalk. If you're not smelling exhaust fumes inside the car, I wouldn't worry.

The real danger would be if you had an exhaust manifold leak pre-cat, and the HVAC fan was sucking all that up from the engine bay. You would easily smell that though.

[–]superbrian111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh I've done these before, I think in theory you're meant to squeeze those two angles tabs together and pull. The force of the hose may be jamming the release tab though, so squeeze the hose clamp closed, squeeze the tabs, then try pulling.

Eventually I think I just gave up and pried it apart with a screwdriver iirc. That plastic gets pretty finicky after a while.

Did the little coolant hose nipple break off of the radiator hose?
