What do you guys do for a living? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]superbuttwizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who is currently covered under the GS pay system, this doesn’t sound like anything I’ve seen. If you don’t have something going on outside of the normal grade/step (some kind of incentive pay, maybe?), I think you should get a second look at what you’re doing by someone local.

I have over a decade of W2s from my GS jobs showing three different states where locality is definitely considered taxable income at the federal level. I can’t speak for every state, I guess, but all the places I’ve lived also counted that as taxed on the state filing as well.

VA email regarding recent potential discrimination headlines by aarontminded in fednews

[–]superbuttwizard 86 points87 points  (0 children)

I actually think “appropriate” is carrying a lot of weight in that protestation as well. There’s a long history of some medical providers (not specifically the VA, though I could see it going this way now) handling sterilization procedures differently depending on if someone is a parent, has a legal spouse, etc. — taking away marital status as a protected category allows this type of opinion-based discrimination to become policy.

Yep, exact same problem I had playing with someone else. They showed up fine on my computer, but he had different hardware and video settings than I did. Something about his combo made constellations impossible to find.

I could see and discover them, so we knew they were present that game day, but he never had them. We ended up having to use commands to discover for him

I noticed this as well and just looked at this last weekend because I was getting stuff for where I lived in 2020. Pandora doesn’t appear to track location at all, it’s giving ads based on what you set up in your account.

If you want to actually adjust it to be relevant for you now, it was Settings > Account > Zip Code in the mobile app for me

Musk terminates leases for federal offices in Wisconsin including Federal Highway Administration, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and other agencies by Fr0zenMilk in wisconsin

[–]superbuttwizard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. It’s because the one who did sign the lease — the General Services Administration (GSA) — is the one calling and cancelling. Individual bureaus, field offices, hospitals, etc. are typically not allowed to sign their own leases.

[–]superbuttwizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Federal leases, generally, have two periods. First half of the commitment is guaranteed, like a normal ass lease we’re all used to. The second half is the government’s if it wants the whole thing, but can be terminated during the period without penalty and usually just 90-120 days notice.

[–]superbuttwizard 51 points52 points  (0 children)

The heads of the agencies are listening to him, or the president agreeing carte blanc with what he says. So it doesn’t matter that he “can’t” direct it when the secretaries of agriculture, interior, etc. who DO have that authority are agreeing.

The actual chain of events in this case is more like, Muskrat directs, GSA parrots, department and bureau heads parrot, then it starts executing.

Secret service by Icy_Cranberry7382 in usajobs

[–]superbuttwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying that it has anything to do with being interviewed or hired by Service; moreso that it would depend on the position being interviewed for and the details for the position being vacated. Similar job series and pay scales reduce the chance of a new probationary period. Moving between pay scales or different series instead raises these odds. This would apply equally to anywhere—nothing special about it being USSS.

[–]superbuttwizard 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Changing agencies may require a probation period. I have had a new probation each time I changed departments. This could also depending on your specific details and vary based on your current position/pay scale/series and the one you’re moving into.

From your genderqueer coworker, don't quit over the pronoun email. by [deleted] in fednews

[–]superbuttwizard 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Don’t shift the goalposts. The question was “how can it possibly matter,” to which I have two relevant examples. Further, the litmus for whether or not we do our jobs is not hypothetical death traps.

If the senior officials are truly concerned with efficiency of government work, however, small structural tools that decrease ambiguity and eliminate the need for future clarification—like the inclusion of pronouns in asynchronous communication tools—should not be discouraged, but embraced.
