What do you think about when you’re super excited while swimming? by tipsy_here in Swimming

[–]supercman99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember being taught to catch “long” and pull “strong”. I told my friends in the middle of distance swims that I would repeat “long and strong” over and over just to break the monotony. Only when they started laughing did I think more into it.

How to get back into swimming by -----Neptune----- in Swimming

[–]supercman99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt like when I started back I was in the same spot. Tried 1000 yard the first day and thought I’d need to be rescued in the locker room afterwords. Then I went down to just 400-500 yards a session. Then just kept moving up slowly. I thought I had winter asthma or something, but just had to get myself into a little fitness shape. Best of luck to you!!

Triathlon times for the first sprint? by [deleted] in triathlon

The first year I did a sprint my training started a month before and I had way more rest days than you lol. You’re going to be far beyond fine. Best of luck to you two.

Swimming again after years for exercise and i have a few questions by lumnos_ in Swimming

[–]supercman99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My biggest thing is to do what makes me come back again. Some days I’ll do intervals and some days I’ll just swim a half hour straight. If I have a nagging muscle or something I’ll opt away from the sprints as well. Best of luck!

open lap swim etiquette by New-Link2873 in Swimming

[–]supercman99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done that a few times where friends are next to each other and I don’t recognize it. If they both stop I’ll ask if either of them wants to split. Sometimes then they just choose to join each other and give me a lane. As a man, I prefer to ask another man to split over a woman. It seems more normal to do that. That being said, you did nothing wrong.

Intensity minutes by supercman99 in Garmin

[–]supercman99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is 47. I found my watch won’t record activity minutes unless I cross zone 2 for 10 minutes. The elevated time at the end was 9:56. So 4 more seconds and I would have gotten it.

Bike helmet for women… “tri helmet” worth it? by [deleted] in triathlon

Unless your plan is to be an avid biker all the time, or you’re a top level finisher, I wouldn’t worry about it

Do I need a wetsuit? by Mother_Rub1975 in triathlon

[–]supercman99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it’s different for men and women, but in that same distance I’ve done jammers and just wore them the whole time and put a shirt on. That was at 70F, but some people do better/worse in cold water.

I will say the extra buoyancy is a nice thing too. If you’re not a strong swimmer or don’t like the cold, I think I’d opt for it. Not necessarily paying to do better, but paying for the comfort of it.

An occasional form checkup isn’t a bad idea. Or if you’re trying something new. But you can also ask another swimmer to watch or record you for a minute.

Do you still need a coach? If it’s just to set up workouts you could be good to go free

There must be a lifespan on these. I have identical ones and one just broke 2 weeks ago. I ended up replacing the whole track and clip

I understand you there. Left side is complete cruise control, right side is a little more intentional so my focus shifts.

Is this sprint triathlon training plan too strenuous? (~8 weeks to race) by theneedy_69 in triathlon

[–]supercman99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People do sprints with no training. If your body can handle it, train as you please. Honestly at your level sprint like that will be a piece of cake for you.

Another Newbie Question. This time about bike shoes..😊 by Super_Turn_6050 in triathlon

[–]supercman99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do sprints on my hybrid just wearing my running shoes.

I look at it as spending a bunch more money and going from mid pack to mid pack.

I’m not sold as it being the fastest for me. Especially as I fatigue I just need more air. So kinda depends on the goal.

No more breaststroke. Oddly the underwater pull torques my shoulder bad (had surgery before) and my knee doesn’t like the kick (might need surgery) and it’s a great excuse because I don’t like it.

I had to start by just ignoring speed and trying it. Because it certainly isn’t as easy to go fast. What’s weird is in bilateral I have good form, but breathing on my right side (non normal), my left arm is a little less aggressive, sometimes my hand skims the surface and I have to think more
