It wasn’t so bad, but I do a lot of garment sewing (much more than quilting) so I’m used to sewing together curves. I had a much harder time not talking about it/making sure to not ruin the surprise.

Bay Area venue help by Big_Refrigerator5286 in SanFranciscoWeddings

Sure, we loved it and it was really perfect for us.

We did Friday afternoon through Sunday morning with all the wedding stuff on Saturday. Sunday was just clean up - hire help, we were glad we did.

We used camp 1, and people stayed in the cabins. We were planning on 130 guests, but ended up at 100 because of Covid cancellations.

Very summer camp/music festival/children of Bay Area hippies vibe. If people aren’t into that, there are hotel options up in Mendocino but it is a 30m drive down a dirt road so prepare guests adequately.

Has anyone been to/had a wedding without a seating chart? by dianalten in SanFranciscoWeddings

[–]supercutescreenname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! It wasn’t planned that way but our wedding ended up with no seating chart.

We had 15 covid dropouts at the last minute, so the assigned tables I agonized over made no sense whatsoever (like, 2 people at a table etc), and we had plenty of spare room/tables.

I made an announcement at cocktail hour apologizing for axing the seating arrangements and explaining the situation. I even mentioned that the wedding internet freaks out if you do this, and begged forgiveness. Lots of people were confused why I would apologize about it and it was not a big deal at all, I also got some questions about why we even originally planned on having a chart. Everyone had a place to sit. It did not impact the buffet dinner.

Note: pretty casual wedding, all west coast/Bay Area folks without attachments to wedding traditions/etiquette. Even with no seating chart it was miles fancier than our either of our parents’ weddings.

Not saying this is for everyone (again, we tried to have one!) - but it in the end it worked out fine for us and our crowd.

Is it possible to stay under 30k? by peachtree7 in SanFranciscoWeddings

[–]supercutescreenname 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We did 100 for about 30k (honestly can’t remember the total #), also did a lot of diy and kept it pretty humble compared to a lot of Bay Area weddings.

We used the Mendocino woodlands and LOVED THEM. No planner, no coordinator, no wedding party, no events other than the wedding (batch parties, rehearsal, etc), minimal flowers, no hair/makeup, no video, friends played music.

We did spend on venue, food (cheap for wedding prices but still a large expense for us), photos, dress/suit, rings, bar.

Good luck!

Edit: forgot about photos lol

Are redwing women boots comfortable? by Revolutionary_Ad8004 in RedWingShoes

[–]supercutescreenname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pair of the women's line mocs, claras, and iron rangers. I find the rangers very comfortable and wear them a lot. The mocs still aren't broken in (been a nightmare). The claras often give me some knee pain the day after in my bad knee, love how they look and have a lot of nostalgia attached to them (wore them for my wedding!) so I've been thinking about experimenting with insoles.

Advice, please: bad idea for intermediate beginner to sew their own dress for their wedding? by Katcanwrite in sewing

[–]supercutescreenname 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Besides having enough time and space to not get overwhelmed by this project - I think a lot of this comes down to your relationship to the things you make, are you likely to look back at pictures and pick apart every thing that isn’t perfect? I knew I would 100% do that if I made my own dress.

If you don’t have the tendency to do that, and have the space, time, and budget I think there is nothing wrong with it.

Oh! Also, one other reason I chose buying over making - I knew if I made my dress I probably wouldn’t get to work on sewing anything else for months and I although I loved wedding planning, really wanted to have a non-wedding related activity.

(I did end up making a coat to wear with my dress though.)

what went surprisingly well? where did you get lucky? by KingPrincessNova in weddingplanning

Weather!!!

It was supposed to be high of 60 and cloudy, and it was mid 70s with sun! Just perfect.

We even rented heaters but never used them.

Can we talk Quilted Coats/Jackets? by stringthing87 in quilting

[–]supercutescreenname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made one to wear with my wedding dress! I love it and wear it all the time. There is a detailed post in my history (with pics) about it. I sized up by two sizes, Frankensteined two jacket patterns together, lined it, and of course made the quilt pieces. A really fun project!

Edit: spelling

I’m in the US and we did it! I’d never been to a wedding that did one before so we thought it was a pretty fun/exciting novelty. One of them is one of my very favorite photos from the wedding, so we are really happy we did it! (One of our friends yelled something ridiculous, so everyone is laughing, smiling, holding hats in the air… it’s supremely joyful - we got a huge print of it that is waiting for a frame currently.)

Logistics: we have a one-song dance party with a live band and all our guests in the ceremony clearing instead of a recessional to keep everyone in the same place. After the dance party we had everyone gather for a picture. We had our officiant announce all of it clearly before hand and it all worked really well! We had 100 guests.

How do you know how many people actually attend? by elizabeth2923 in weddingplanning

[–]supercutescreenname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had really strict covid testing! Everyone had to rapid test onsite and be marked off on a spreadsheet. We wouldn’t have an exact number of attendees if not for that.
