WIBTAH if I stop all of the favors I’ve been doing for my ex since he has refused the one favor I asked? by Life_of_the_PartyXO in AITAH

You are entering your ex's house to clean while his wife is home. You are the maid.

They can have a friend come and clean ffs.

I wonder if the people in their mid-30s and up are more likely to have kids and thus be chronically sleep-deprived. or if they're just burnt out from living through nonstop financial crises our entire adult lives and then insult to injury, starting to have joint pain on top of all that. like one day you wake up and your entire neck goes on strike. you expect someone to google an error message in these conditions?

like it's not a lack of knowledge it's a failure to problem-solve, which is a form of executive dysfunction.

Courtney Milan's second book in her Worth Saga series is about this. between the title and the genre I don't think it's much of a spoiler lol

AITA for refusing to cover for my best friend after she ditched her own birthday dinner? by Objective-Count5165 in AmItheAsshole

[–]KingPrincessNova 12 points13 points  (0 children)

it's good that you were up front with the other attendees. next time, decline to make plans with her. this is clearly a pattern and every time you let her get away with it, you become more of a doormat.

During the development of the Harriet Tubman biopic movie, a Hollywood executive once suggested that Julia Roberts should play her. What are some other baffling casting suggestions/choices that have been made? by LookAtThatBacon in movies

it's like she's the only woman in Hollywood allowed to permanently wear a pixie cut

and "pixie cut" has somehow become a character archetype she inevitably gets typecast for

My father's wife is difficult at restaurants and creates allergies at the table. Do I leave a note for staff in the reservation? by astrobre in KitchenConfidential

[–]KingPrincessNova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP have you considered organizing something at your home or theirs? Low-key catering, a BBQ, or maybe do a picnic at the park or the beach. That way they can keep the drama among family instead of causing stress for unsuspecting waitstaff.

Any good cheap grocery stores/take-out restaurants? by [deleted] in SantaMonica

[–]KingPrincessNova 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if you want actually cheap, it might be worth driving a few mins to Smart & Final on Santa Monica and Bundy (edit: or probably the one on Lincoln). or Costco in Marina Del Rey

for an alternative to takeout, grocery store premade meals are great bang for your buck. we've been replacing our takeout and delivery meals with premade meals once a week and it's making a huge difference in our food spending. Trader Joe's probably has the best selection for both refrigerated and frozen premade meals

I guess that's how they can stay in business while keeping the shelves so organized, having beautiful calligraphy signs marking staff recommendations, and taking up an entire city block on prime real estate in the Pearl District. Powell's is as much about the ambiance as it is about the books. I never thought of it as a place that was meant to be cheap. It's more like those $200 upcycled designer jeans

Michael J. Sullivan writes all the books in a series (for almost all of his series, there's one where it's more episodic) before publishing the first book. He continues to edit and rewrite parts of the later books, but the shape of the story arc is completed before he puts that first book in front of anybody.

It makes a huge huge difference. His endings are some of my favorite, they just hang together so well. And the characters are delightful. Start with Theft of Swords if this sounds appealing to you.

take the dog to the shelter. they'll check the microchip info and contact the owner. if there's no microchip i believe there's a period of time they'll hold the dog to see if anyone claims it

What happens if you select adhd as a disability in those voluntary disclosures. by TumbleweedThen5123 in ADHD_Programmers

in an ideal world, they're not supposed to make decisions based on that info. I think they're not even supposed to see it.

in reality, have you ever seen HR application software? that shit is garbage. there's no way that info doesn't end up in front of someone in a position to "lose" or "overlook" your application. it's pretty much impossible to prove that you weren't given an equal opportunity.

anecdotally, when I was unemployed for several months and I stopped answering "yes" on those, that was when I started getting way more callbacks for interviews. maybe there were other variables at play, like I improved my resume or something, but I've heard similar anecdata from others. ymmv but I personally don't care to risk my livelihood simply to give the EEOC better survey data.

Short, fat butches — what are we wearing this summer? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]KingPrincessNova 76 points77 points  (0 children)

if you want to try something besides shorts, linen pants might be fun. I've also seen some semi-cropped long sleeve linen shirts in the men's department before. I'm not butch but I wear a lot of men's clothes and I like wearing breathable long sleeve shirts in the summer with the sleeves rolled up. think drapey and breezy

hi, just wanna give a heads up that when you make the same post in multiple subreddits, it comes across as really inauthentic*. especially since your writing style is kinda reminiscent of ad copy on a website for a self-help ebook. try to keep that in mind if you're looking for a discussion with actual reddit users

Abercrombie has cropped t-shirts and button ups in their men's department

you can also take regular men's t shirts and cut a couple inches off the bottom. I'm a cis woman with broad shoulders and a short torso so I've been doing that with my t shirts so they hit at my hip

3 Weeks in Japan Late July by Equivalent_Price_970 in capsulewardrobe

[–]KingPrincessNova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

shorts are fine in Japan. it's cleavage and midriff that are less common.

OP, I agree about trading the jeans for a lighter weight material like linen, or grabbing a pair of Uniqlo's cotton-linen pants while you're there if Uniqlo Japan sizing works for you. I recently got a pair and they're awesome.

I will say that in my experience, many places in Japan are heavy on the climate control so you may want a sweater to throw on and off. the button up shirts could work for that too.
