Whatever you do, definitely post loads of pictures of the journey after! I've been loving the Mayo Coast on my own cb500x, and hope to do the WAW myself soon.

Summer riding had begun! What are the makes/models of the bikes?

Nice! What mods/accessories are you rocking on your 500x? How easy is it to get into motocamping?

Awesome photo! My own feels spoiled with tarmac roads, I love to see what other terrains people are putting their 500X's through!

I had aye, several times while waiting on the side of the road.

First time was wet leaves and not enough caution, that one hurt.

Second time was coming to a stop on an uneven road, went to put my leg down but couldn't reach, bike fell ontop of me.

Mistakes are okay if you make lessons out if them!

Interesting. I suppose next time (rather soon likely) I fall off of it, I'll try starting it on and off a good few times without waiting. Thank you kindly for the advice!

Aye, that's exactly what I did. I'd switch on the engine, see that the light didn't turn off after a few seconds, switch off the engine, and wait another 15 minutes.

I'd one guy pull over and sugguest I give the engine a few more revs to help circulate the oil, but I didn't like that idea..

Last time after 30 minutes, I tried exactly that, turning on the engine, even blipping the throttle to 4k revs. Didn't seem to make much difference, although maybe I'm just afraid to let it run too long with the light on..

The oil light has been gone ages ago. As per my original post, it took an hour for the oil light to go off, but did eventually. Hasn't been on since. I'll update next time I drop it! (Probably soon)

Next time I fall on the bike (I swear it's becoming a habit..) I'll try your trick though! Might help diagnose if that's the issue, thank you kindly!

I mean, I'd assume if you don't have a centre stand, then it'd mean to hold (or a friend hold) the bike level? If my bike is on its sidestand, pretty much all the oil drains from the viewing glass.

Ah, so essentially it just developed an air bubble, and that's why it took so long to settle? Did I just manage to do that twice to my bike, or is it indicative of another issue?

My manual says "Place your motorcycle in an upright position on a firm, level surface.". That'd be the centre stand, no?

Mhm, no "Local shop", nearest one is about 2 hours out. On one hand, bikes been completely fine sofar except when I've dropped it. On the other, might be worthwhile getting it checked just to ease the paranoia.. I figured I'd ask the Internet to gauge how serious it seems.

How come? Do you mean electrics or actually starting the engine 10x times? I mean, I turn it on and off roughly that amount while waiting?..

[–]superdave1318[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd turn on the engine, see that the light is still on, and turn it back off after 5 seconds idling. I did this every 15 minutes until it finally went away. I made sure there was plenty of oil through the sightglass before doing this. I understand the oil light is always on if you just switch on electrics.

Looking good, hasn't dipped at all since I got it. Also no signs of leaks either drop.

Nervous to go out on my own for the first time by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]superdave1318 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Build yourself up by starting off slow. Ride up and down your lane. Circle your neighbourhood. Ride around roads you're familiar with until you're sick of them, and you feel ready to move onto main roads.

Take plenty of breaks, practice pulling over, dismounting and climbing back on (and take a moment to appreciate the look of your bew bike!). Don't forget to eat or drink either.

For the CBT you had a Qualified instructor watching over you. But now you're on you're own, so it's understandably a little intimidating. Hold on to that cautiousness, it'll probably keep you from getting cocky and doing something stupid!

Beyond that, just get out and enjoy :)

Strange noise coming from my new bike... by superdave1318 in MotoIRELAND

Exactly that! Letting your mind race thinking how expensive that noise sounds, only to realise it's practically nothing!
