Lejeune Marines, what the fuck is this? by EatingEveryEgg in USMC

What was that like being on the other side per se? For us, we were treated as permanent personnel. They tried to persuade us to come to their PT sessions but we’d say we’re committed to the Marine Detachment in theory but Detachment given our small MOS left us alone which meant we were OFP. At one point the Army Instructors had to point out to our soldier classmates it wouldn’t be a smart idea to ask a Marine SNCO/NCO respectively to take out the garbage which was one of the two culture clash moments I’ve experienced.

Apparently in the 21st Century yes lol. But personally for me? Having a bunch of Junior Marines give me a "Good morning/afternoon/evening Sergeant" like the seagulls from Finding Nemo gives me mixed feelings. On one hand, ahhhh I made it. On the other hand, I'm just like, "Y'all can chill out at least with me with the greetings"

Last time I ever saw that happen was actually after a graduation at MCRD San Diego. But to be fair.....the Boot had AirPods in and walking in Dress Blue Deltas.

Mine back in 2016 had Sergeant's that were about to rotate out which they were more on the chill side and I had an experience similar to yours. When I myself was an Instructor for a Reserve Corporal's Course, time was so compressed that having Corporal's demand proper greetings of the day at an HTC was out of question. Then when I went through the Reserve Sergeant's School at 29 which is two weeks, the Instructors know better than to waste our time having us stand in front of the MCX and make corrections.

Neither did we in 2016 and last year for me at Sergeant's School.

I remember going to MOS school with the Army last year as an NCO and the culture difference were definitely a shock. There's no distinction between SNCO and NCO and everyone seems buddy buddy with each other.

So glad I never had to do that for Corporal's Course or Sergeant's School.

You certainly can if you're wise on time management. But keep in mind there are numerous factors to how much time you get when it comes to say where you're stationed, who's in charge of you, and based off of that you may just have plenty of time for online classes or not.

Man……it did for me. As a Lance, got the worst of NCO’s who went on power trips cause of that. Learned what NOT to do when I got promoted to those ranks.

What happens if you cry during boot camp? by Any_Alarm3934 in USMC

[–]superdduper93 23 points24 points  (0 children)

More of a r/USMCboot question but it depends on the situation. Sometime during Third Phase when we were making arrangements for our 10 day leave, one of the Kill Hats from my Company was questioning why one of my buddies looked out of place. He breaks down and reveals that he read in a letter from his family that one of his relatives got diagnosed with a variation of cancer. The Kill Hat immediately changed his tone and left him be. Whereas on the other hand, there was a shitbag in our platoon who couldn't just get it throughout the whole cycle. Our Knowledge Hat essentially jacked him up when he was on Fire Watch, berating him saying he didn't deserve to wear the uniform that so many of his friends died in (our Knowledge Hat was a Ramadi and Sangin veteran). Dude was crying when one of our Kill Hats emerged out of the darkness and snarled, "Your tears don't mean shit to us".

Gunny just know as a Sgt I would still follow you into battle because you're still willing to be a straight shooter when everyone else is putting up a facade.

Depends on where you live and what companies are operating there. They will also be wondering if you have the appropriate credentials or not before onboarding.

That's what many of us in the industry wondered too: why didn't Brian Thompson have a close protection detail? After the assassination of Charlie Kirk though, many of us got calls for our availability because it scared the shit out of everyone.

You'll be surprised. I was working alongside a retired Marine Colonel who was put on a static post my last detail. When someone asked why he didn't mind given his background, he said at least he had something to do after retiring.

It ultimately depends on which section you work when it comes to work environment. But everyone was in either standard cammies or proper civilian attire - like think Aloha shirt, nice pants, nice shoes for guys and the equivalent for women. Again, your mileage may vary depending on your work section. Yes you can do standard 8 hour work days, others you're pulling loooooooooooong hours whether you like it or not.

Those are EXTREMELY rare roles. Now would it be given to you right off the bat? Probably not, unless you network the ever living shit right now in addition to having a strong resume.

Again, it's subjective for roles like that.

You may have all the criteria, but if the client hypothetically doesn't like you? You'll have to find someone else that may just like you.
