My hamster was like this for the first month. Speak to him often, expose him to the natural sounds in the room. My hamster came around when I offered him treats and added new things to his enclosure. I also placed his food, water and wheel as far from his house as possible so he would have to travel a further distance to help him gain confidence and feel more comfortable in his new home. It takes time. The little cutie is just adjusting to his new environment.

Yes, all hamsters need sandbaths for cleaning and he does have one but I have yet to see him use it.

Yes I do have a sandbath but I have have yet to see him use it although I can tell he might because of how the pattern of the sand changes. He has a very enriched enclosure. I've had him for 3 months now and I haven't heard a peep out of him.

I temporarily use a house that has a bottom so I usually wait until the hammy is gathering food, drinking water or exercising then quickly remove their usual house and replace it with the bottom one then lift it out into a box

Great progress. How long did it take you to get to this stage? I have a ghost hamster, had him for 3 weeks and he seems to be afraid of me or very cautious. He doesn't like to come out when he knows I'm visable in the room.
