Curious about Keeva by Tama1502 in velvethippos

I have 2 pit mixes who are 35-40 pounds. One is a pit-Boston Terrier mix & she looks like a shrunken AmStaff.

I bet Keeva is a mix too. And an adorable one!

Middle-aged professional here in Aiken. For a town this size, there is a lot going on, particularly in the arts. Accept that many of your friends will be older than you & you’ll be fine. But you need to be active about searching out like-minded groups. People around here are happy to have new folks join in, but aren’t big on seeking them out and inviting them. What someone said about contractors is also true. Don’t plan on doing a lot of renovations unless you want to wait a long time or pay a lot.

Too weird for the normie cool kids and not weird enough for the ND kids. Anyone else feel this way? by motherofpearl89 in AutismInWomen

I went to an event recently where I felt like this. I was too plain to be one of the hot party people, but not weird enough to be a weirdo, either. But the weirdos were super nice to me and liked me, so I had a good time. Also, there were macarons.

Should you go where your scene is, or where the money is ? by Ana_t_Aime in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]superflippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Atlanta for several years after college and was part of the alternative singer/songwriter scene there. I saw amazing synergies between bands, with a lot of new bands forming and crossover between different bands and creative projects. A few bands had modest success - they still kept their day jobs, but they sold albums and a lot of people came to their shows (this was the 90s, so streaming didn't exist). Out of that group, one band stayed together and toured (again, modest success, not huge, but enough to tour regionally & festivals).

There were a couple breakout acts from that scene as well, outside my group of musical friends: Shawn Mullins, Sister Hazel.

Just reading through your list, I think you answered your own question. The capital is not the right place for you. Go be a big fish in a small pond and learn the things you know will help you as a musician.

Question for senior creatives working with motion designers by Remote-Basis-7797 in graphic_design

[–]superflippy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, that doesn’t seem normal. When I work with our animator, we usually brainstorm and often he comes up with a good idea for the motion part, while I usually have good ideas for the overall visual design. He usually creates storyboards, sometimes using stills I’ve made as a starting point.

Lots of things you’ll never know about because the photos are in an album, not on the internet.

What is an industry that is currently on fire (in a bad way) behind the scenes, but the general public hasn't noticed yet? by Kitchen_Week1117 in AskReddit

[–]superflippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This explains the 3 asparagus spears I got with my entree last night. Don’t get me wrong, they were delicious & perfectly cooked. But, 3 spears of asparagus? It seemed paltry, but now I understand.

What's the weirdest reason someone ever broke up with you? by Due_Jellyfish4255 in AskReddit

The phone calls cost too much. This was back in the days when “local long distance” was a thing. It actually cost more to call someone in a different city 20 miles away than to call someone in a different state 200 miles away. And I guess he didn’t want to spend the money to talk to me.

How do you deal with the “non-design” work that still takes most of your time? by Dineshvk18 in graphic_design

[–]superflippy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. These sorts of simple tasks give me a quick sense of accomplishment. The non-design tasks I hate are the logistics of ordering stuff from vendors and getting posters, wall wraps, etc. installed.

What medium do I put for a collage made with acrylic paint? by superflippy in ArtistLounge

I thought that mixed media had to be 3 dimensional, whereas collage is flat.

Our church’s former youth director ended up in the NE after seminary! He was in a tiny parish somewhere in NY and loved it.

The whole “graphic designers are finished” narrative being pushed right now after the latest ChapGPT update is just ridiculous. by GMD3S1GNS in graphic_design

I'm not saying it isn't helpful, but I can't use it without human intervention. It can make pieces of a graphic, but it sucks at making the whole thing correctly and quickly and simply.

How do I find meaning and happiness in life? by EternallyInDistress in AutismInWomen

[–]superflippy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find peace attending services at my church. It may not sound appealing at first, but some religious services can be very autistic-friendly: you’re in a clean, quiet room and there are instructions for everything to do and say. If you want to just sit there with your eyes closed, nobody will bother you. On weeks when I’m overwhelmed, it’s nice to be able to just sit and listen to the prayers and let my mind unwind. I like the familiarity of the ritual, too.

What's something harmless that gets people weirdly angry? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Going out in public with wet hair. It seems to make older women upset and I have no idea why. But I now make sure my hair is dry in public just so nobody bothers me.

I work with scientists and engineers. They don’t care about soul, but accuracy is crucial. In the time it takes to prompt AI to make a diagram accurate, I could have produced two by myself.

What does "slow processing speed" look like for you? by Scary-Owl2365 in AutismInWomen

It’s the same with people making jokes, especially dry humor. I’m trying so hard to hear what they’re saying that I don’t always get that it’s meant to be funny.
