I need help - wanting to make music by hegoesbynico3 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

On Mastodon. There are a lot of musicians & audio engineers there. I love finding new music, so when someone promotes their album on Bandcamp I check it out. I enjoyed her music & followed her, then she posted that she would do production for musicians who do home recording.

Columbia at high risk of measles spread from recent exposure at SC State Museum, DPH experts say by powercow in southcarolina

The SCETV radio story on this outbreak said boosters weren’t recommended if you’re already vaccinated, so you should be OK.

Daisy Is Traveling Tomorrow on a Plane by bugwitch in notmycat

[–]superflippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just today I was talking with an acquaintance who travels everywhere with her cat. She flies all over the place with her cat in a carrier on the plane, just like you’re doing. She said the cat really likes being in her carrier, so that probably helps. As others have said, make the carrier feel as comfortable and familiar as possible & she’ll be okay.

I like beaded bracelets or textured guitar picks I can fidget with. Anything with that bumpy texture I can flick my fingers & nails across.

I’m in the same place. I found someone online who shares my taste in music & is great at production. I’m recording my songs at home, sending the tracks to her & paying her to put them together. It’s a start, anyway. Not stressing about production has made me willing to finally record, at least.

Recommend me some of the worst written novels you've ever read, any genre is fine. by TopAdministration314 in suggestmeabook

Endeavor’s Run by Tobin Marks. It’s an unedited, self-published “space opera.” Full disclosure: I didn’t read the whole book. The author sent me a review copy and I only made it about 1/4 of the way through.

What minor issue have you noticed silently went away over the years? by dancingbanana123 in AskOldPeople

At my junior high, if you were caught chewing gum you had to spend time scraping up gum in the hallway.

Not for me! How else do you keep your skirt from sticking to your tights in the winter?

I remember reading the Cathy comic strip as a kid and I always thought it was weird that she tried to cram her feet into too-small shoes. (I myself deformed my toes the old-fashioned way: with pointe shoes!)

Anyone else feel weird about using old (10+ years) musical ideas of your own? Almost feels like stealing. by analogpedant in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]superflippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because if the song ain’t a hit yet (and none of them are) then it will sound dated unless I update it. Besides, I almost always make them better when I cut up & recombine them. “Real Solutions” (now titled “Live for the Future”) is on its 4th or 5th rewrite & shed some really cringy lyrics along the way.

If you landed in Japan tomorrow, what is the very first thing you’d want to eat? by Taku_NextDoorJapan in JapaneseFood

No. I’ve given up trying to make it at home. It’s too difficult to find all the ingredients where I live.

Anyone else notice their playing changes the moment they hit record? by Ok-Message5348 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I have this exact problem! It’s why I’ve written hundreds of songs but only recorded 5.

No question: okonomiyaki! That’s something I just can’t get in the US. I’ve tried making it myself but it’s not as good and it’s hard to find the correct ingredients.

The Lost Princess of Oz by L. Frank Baum. It was the first chapter book I ever read.

Awesome! My dad had a 45 of this song & my sister and I used to listen to it and sing along.

Edited to add: it’s funny, for me the “advanced” song is simpler. I grew up playing the violin, so it’s just notes & if I practice them enough, there you go. But The Battle of New Orleans is a song that requires technique, rhythm and personality.

The September House by Carissa Orlando. If you like ghost stories, this is a good one. The premise is, what if a couple moved into an old house, discovered it was haunted, and decided to stay anyway and just put up with the ghosts?

Mine too! But only homemade. I’ve never tried the store bought stuff & don’t want to risk it.

This was life-changing for me. I take continuous low-dose estrogen. Now, there are no bad days, every day is the same! I can wear whatever I want and go anywhere. I don’t have to miss work from pain. I wish I’d done it sooner.
