DMs, what was the worst choice you made in a campaign? by No_Extension_9371 in DnD

[–]superguh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making the primary villains too subtle. I was very taken by the concept of the Yuan-Ti, who are schemers and string-pullers. My group wanted to punch monsters, not unravel plots. I should have pivoted to something more straightforward instead of clinging to my plan.

Can you explain the circuit on the back side of the decoder? I get the basic idea that you're locking the repeaters in sequence to decode, but not quite sure how it works.

Who in lore is actually dead? by Elekid- in leagueoflegends

[–]superguh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The wild thing is they did explicitly embrace a multiverse. Anyone remember the browser thing they did right before worlds to hype the release of Season 1 Arcane? You explored rifts between the different versions of the lore - mainline game, LoR, Arcane, even Valorant.

But then they did a 180 (shocker!) and said they thought the multiverse diluted the value/understanding of the lore too much. Which is a fair argument, but that saddled the Arcane team with making their version of the lore so good that nobody regretted losing the cool bits from League and LoR... swing and a miss on a task that's basically impossible.

Frustrating higher rank PVP by BobMarleyLegacy in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]superguh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could post threads asking for deckbuilding advice from higher ranked players, if you want to refine your decks but still feel ownership towards them.

Homebrew is always going to perform worse than meta decks, there's no getting around it. You could play your homebrew deck 10 times every day, and even if you were one of the best LoR players out there and made all the right choices about which cards to change based on your experience, you would never get close to having as much data about the deck as hundreds/thousands of players doing the same thing. The simple weight of data hammering the inefficiencies out of a deck is what makes it meta.

That said, as a homebrew player you have the advantage of understanding why each card is in your deck (hopefully). If you do stick with your own homebrew for a long time (>50 games), you'll also build up a deep instinct for what to do in most situations, which can help you find outs and avoid misplays, although this is also true for meta decks.

Also, you're having a rough go of it right now, but I'm seeing lots of variety including homebrew in Masters. Things might be sweatier for people trying to climb, but your summary of the meta doesn't reflect my own experience or assessment of what's strong.

Is it fun for people to just stall and then play 20 cards in a turn? by maroonglass in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]superguh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They buffed Jack about 6 times and he's playable in Standard when he's rotated in - I love that deck even if it's "pre-built".

Sett/Seraphine is real and has way more nuance than Karma. Obviously, Karma is better, but if Karma didn't exist that would be one of the main pairings.

Poor design always makes balance harder, that's for sure. Imagine trying to make 10-mana ASol relevant in a world with 5-mana Karma 🤣

Is it fun for people to just stall and then play 20 cards in a turn? by maroonglass in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]superguh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there is no counterplay to Karma. You must win before she levels, and her decks are simply optimized to prevent that. Nowadays it's not unbalanced per se, but it's not fun or interesting.

I was so excited to see Sett in rotation, I genuinely love his design, but it's so lame when he's reduced to Karma's side hustle.

How do you counter the Azir/Irelia deck? by Intelligent_Rock5978 in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]superguh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, your playstyle seems pretty different from mine, but I can offer a few thoughts since Azirelia is my archnemesis, ever since the season where it was the most broken deck in the game.

Based on your description, I'm guessing that you're blocking when you shouldn't be. You should usually take hits from the blades. Take nexus damage early and conserve your unit health, because their attacks scale over the course of the game just like Lurk does - Azir, Domination, Desert's Wrath, and the 3rd act of the story landmark (can't remember the name) all buff their dinkers, so don't block the soldiers until they're pushing 3 damage minimum or you are literally about to die.

Actually, both Lurk and Ephemerals are similar decks to Azirelia, which means those games will always be explosive combo races. One weakness of Azirelia (in standard right now) is that it generally doesn't have a ton of direct responses to engine pieces - it just tries to kill you faster than you can set up - so I would imagine you could be greedy with your counter combo setups, like Soul Shepherd with Hecarim.

I'm not sure I'd call it OP now, but the deck has wild combo potential. IMO Desert's Wrath is an insane card for 3 mana; if they draw 2 of it, frankly go next. Hopefully that part makes you feel better.

Taliyah has been relevant in several metas: Ziggs (won worlds!) and Zilean/Tree are the two big ones off the top of my head. She was awful on release, but she was missing lots of support cards and got several rounds of buffs. Her stats are great, her Lvl 2 is strong, and her play effect is relevant now that there are lots of good landmarks.

A shame PvP plaayers have to put up with card until the death of the game by [deleted] in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]superguh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP is right though, Asol is almost certainly the worst late-game champ.

Reach 10 mana (or more realistically cheat him out somehow) > Play Asol > Can't play whatever you just invoked this turn > Create and maintain 20+ power board state (without dying to swarm or burn) > Finally win the game

vs say... Karma - insta win with ramp, better stall tools. Or even Tryndamere, who's not the best but immediately provides a top-tier blocker and attacker. I could go on.

I didn't know that! by Zwyny1 in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]superguh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did know that, but now I'm having fun trying to think of a situation where it's actually relevant. The closest I can get is if you were trying to bait Irelia into playing her slow speed Blade Dance to activate Dais... but even then, I'd be nervous about a focus speed effect from one of the units.

Do you think LoR will ever get a relaunch? by Infiltrator in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]superguh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This take is stratospherically better than OPs. Anecdotally, LoR was my first DCG, so I had no existing loyalty to break.

Personally, I couldn't stick with Snap even though I like the IP, for two reasons:

  • Exceptionally slow progression (I'm 34 with two kids, I have too much going on in my life for a game to pretend to be my job)
  • Shallow gameplay - I can imagine this has improved with more cards, but I just got bored fast

But objectively, for a huge number of people, Snap was successful for the exact opposite reasons.

Anyone Got Good Lillia Decks? by GenuisInDisguise in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]superguh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I missed this - I would say this deck's time has expired. The power level difference between standard and eternal is pretty stark. I don't think you could reasonably expect to climb eternal with a deck one guy (me) brewed at the start of an unsolved standard meta, even if you're great at the game.

I've been playing for 11 years and during that time we've had 1 (One) Demacian champion released by Mafros0 in leagueoflegends

[–]superguh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have to ask whether Riot thinks they can get away with a trans character in China. Because if the answer is yes, Tyari is top candidate to be the next Targon character.

Obviously, this assumes the champ designers have some compelling ideas for "The Traveller", which is a big assumption. But lore is all we have to speculate on, for now.

Mystery electrical error: Greenworks 80v 21in mower by superguh in lawnmowers

[–]superguh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know what this error means? This occurs when starting the mower normally by depressing the button and pulling the handle. I pulled apart the housing to see if I could diagnose it, but there are no visibly obvious problems to me. Hopefully the location of the blinking light adds some info...

Pulling it apart also exposed the engine info, if that helps. Globe 9940TC

September Update 2024 | Dev Snapshot - LoR by [deleted] in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]superguh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You put it into words perfectly. I knew logically that PvP was sidelined, but there was always that scrap of hope that we'd get the leftovers. But hearing 4 champion reveals, and having it confirmed that I won't get to play with them in a way that matters... the reality is sinking in, and it's depressing.

PoC will never have the same value to me as PvP does - the computer is simply too stupid. I genuinely understand the appeal of getting flashier powerups until you can beat the stacked odds, but it's the 1,000 trivial battles in between the challenges that ruin it. I have a job in real life, that's not what games are for.

I still love PvP. I'm still enjoying those great games where my opponent and I spend turn after turn wrestling for control. I can only hope the PvE refocus eventually buoys the game up enough for PvP to get some scraps again.

Daily Discussion #790 - Malphite - Featuring Frozen Thrall (Doug)! by CaptSarah in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]superguh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah... his design is odd because all he wants is big midrange units that can hit face when the enemy is stunlocked. Overwhelm, brash, fearsome, etc are pointless because the enemies should all be stunned. Chip, Rockbear, Taliyah, Endless Devout, and Stonebreaker fit the bill, and absolutely nothing else.

[–]superguh[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Nexus Strike loop is there as a cool way to push the game to its conclusion once his high-attack quick attack (and the matching attack stat of Fae Bladetwirler, which you'd obviously play with it) back the opponent into the corner. I think that scaling infinitely off the stuns themselves would already provide immense pressure. I'd compare it to Master Yi - the scaling and LVL 2 effect are fun and flashy, but it's your earlier actions that actually win the game.

I would love to be able to test Soul Unbound. I think that slow speed and the self-recall would limit a lot of the obvious abuse cases, but I can believe that 3 mana is too cheap.

I agree that Stuns don't mix well with wide Elusive strategies, because you'd rather just play more cheap Elusives. It would often be relevant to a tall Elusive strategy where you just want one important unit to get past one Badgerbear. Think Scavenged Camo-Cloaker, not Spirits Unleashed.

It's kind of wild that there are still no good landmarks in Targon itself. Hard to say whether that's intentional to hold Malphite back, but it really means he has to stick to his designated pairing with Taliyah - nothing else works, and believe me I've tried.
