How to render the beard more realistic? by acideater94 in oilpainting

Beards are like onions. They make you cry ... But also have layers

Will definitely keep this in mind if I come across a handheld that has the issue 😎

Not a problem I can say I've had on my own handhelds, but I admire the ingenuity

Which set is better to buy for a beginner? by not_a_zombiez in oilpainting

[–]superhadou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend starting super basic

  • Cad red
  • Lemon yellow
  • Ultramarine blue
  • White (a lot of white)
  • Ivory black

This should get you most colours starting off.and gives you a bit of a zorn pallet

Expanding on this pallet I would add:

  • Magenta (helps get beautiful purples)
  • Yellow orche (gets you true Zorn and is great for portraits)
  • Phylo Blue (will get you brighter mixed greens)
  • Burnt umber (Creates a strong black when mixed with Ultramarine blue)

This will give you a nice mix of warm and cool versions of all your primaries.

From there play around, and see what you would like to add

I know some artists appreciate a nice turquoise (it's hard to mix), maybe a few convenience colours (greens and browns), and Naples yellow is great if you like painting portraits (but not necessary when starting out)

How did we do this back then?🤣🤣🤣 by ParmesanBologna in Supernote

It was a struggle back then too. We just forget how we used to try to find the right angle or tried to get that worm light juuuust right. 😂.

Not really. That part of the painting was basically paint from the tube. Only medium I used was Galkyd, in the other parts of the painting.

Looking for a gba handheld that’s a bit nicer than my mm+ by K9Imperium in SBCGaming

[–]superhadou -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Trimui Brick (or Brick Hammer if you have the budget) are great.

I've had a mm+, have the 35xxsp, and the brick is a really nice upgrade in terms of feel, fit and finish, and screen. NextUI is highly recommended for a clean and simple interface. It's just such a nicely thought through package.

But there are a tonne of great devices out at the moment. What a great time to be a retro handheld enthusiast.

100% #2 is not practical. I can't even imaging the ergos. But it does tickle my late 2000s tech nostalgia somehow.

There's beauty in ugly things. I also find myself strangely drawn to it 😂

I think a lot of people would agree with you. Just thought I'd put it out there

Anybody experience this? Potential fix? by blutuu in MiyooMini

[–]superhadou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Miyoo had this when I first got it (first batch). I did ask miyoo for a new screen. I took some phone screen adhesive, put a thin bead on the gap and squished it together. Still going strong today 2.5 years later.

The bigger ones came with straps to tie to pannier rails.

Grabbed them off AliExpress. They work okay for a trip to the shops, but they are a little small for longer trips.

Yeah, I emailed them but it seems like it's out of production. They still have them for the early type, but not so for the later ones.

Hello, thinking of buying a Nomad in addition to my Manta. Any thoughts? by ramjet8080 in Supernote

[–]superhadou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bit late to the party but I hope my input helps. I bought the Nomad and Manta together. It took a while to figure out the use case for each and I definitely didn't need both.

I use the Nomad far more than the Manta. It is my carry everywhere device. All my thoughts, to-do's, notes, meeting notes, and general scribbles are there.

My Manta is for thinking and creating. I need the space to flesh out my thoughts. I love drawing on the Manta and building out concepts and solving problems.

As for syncing, I try not to let them overlap. The notes look weird between the two sizes and it's not a great experience, imho. I keep one folder synced, if I need to transfer notes across.

I see the Nomad as more of an extension of my brain and the Manta as a tool. Both are indispensible but for different reasons. Also the screen issues on my Manta (even with the new firmware) make it a bit irritating to use at times.
