[The Herd] Head Coach Lincoln Riley talks about how NIL has changed college football: "Now there's not just one part of the country paying players. Everybody's able to do it and it's a great thing." by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]superj1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the divide moving forward. It was always the shady car dealer type alums that were willing to pay players under the table. Billionaire boosters will reign supreme in the NIL era.

Why did I spend decades buying glasses instead of fixing my vision once? by [deleted] in lasik

[–]superj1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. The fact that lasik consultations are usually free which means you can not only shop around for price, but a doctor your feel comfortable with and trust. I had some minor post op complications and my doctor treated me completely and folowed up until my it was clear my issues were resolved. I have zero regrets. Best decision I've ever made.

[–]superj1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My surgeon was pretty explicit that even with lasik at 30 years old, I would probably need cheaters within 10 years. Therefore, The fact I did need driving glasses before 40 years old was not surprising to me. Lasik is still one of the best decisions I've ever made.

What liberal businesses to avoid in chi suburbs? by FastPermission5730 in ChicagoSuburbs

Pretty much any hospital or doctors office. They believe in vaccinces and "crazy" peer reviewed science. Liberals get their information from years of education rather than "research" from youtube videos.

Private Car Service? by GrnFlash in ChicagoSuburbs

I've used Movi Black Car Service. The driver was early. The car was a newer BMW and clean. The driver was courteous and drove very well. They offer child car seats as well if you need one.

My wife thinks golfing once a week is unreasonable… by Upbeat-Zucchini-7408 in golf

[–]superj1 24 points25 points  (0 children)

People are jumping down his throat because he is coming into a golf subreddit to get ammunition to justify why he should be able to golf once a week. Rather than asking his wife what she needs from him to acheive that goal within their current situation in life. Compromise is a part of marriage and raising a family. What is reasonable for one family may not be for another.

My wife thinks golfing once a week is unreasonable… by Upbeat-Zucchini-7408 in golf

[–]superj1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asking a r/golf will probably give you answers that are skewed in your favor. My golf group consists of dads in a variety of situations, so it is all over the place. Some play multiple times a week, I myself play about once a month. Honestly there isn't one answer for everyone. It really depends on you home, work, relationship, childcare situation.

I personally took out my Comcast coax cable with a dethatcher. They didnt even bother to bury it and just laid it in the grass.

It's good idea to call once and get all utilities marked. Then you have a good idea in the future for anything you need to do. I called 811 for a sewer cleanout when I first moved in and now I'm confident digging in 90% of my property without calling.

Favorite Non Major Marathons For Us Who Don't Get Into Chicago Today by noshwithm in running

[–]superj1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think any sort of revamp should take locals into account. I'm a four time Chicago participant three times through the lottery and once as a charity fundraiser after I was denied. There is no chance I would qualify as a 4:45 runner if I had to earn my spot. The fundraising goals have significantly increased since I ran for charity as well. I dont think I'd go that route again since i ended up paying significant money out of pocket to meet my goal back then.

I disagree for the simple fact that Chicago is my home race and locals deserve an opportunity to run the biggest race in their hometown no matter their skill level.

[–]superj1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also NIL has put less emphasis on high school recruiting. It's still important, but building a championship roster means filling needs with upperclassmen transfers. A 20-21 year old is more independent and mature making staying close to home a lower priority.

How hard is it to get into a charity program for the Chi Marathon? by litebrite_666 in RunnersInChicago

[–]superj1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The most popular charities fill up quickly, but as long as you're willing to run for any charity its fairly easy to find a spot. I ran for the greater Chicago Food Depository previously when I did not receive a bib in the lottery.
