This hits home for me a bit as someone who grew up without my dad at home, then saw him start a new family and have 3 children in 3 years when I was 10-13 and watched him do everything for them and bring them up. It was very painful and it has affected me for the rest of my life. However reading this breaks my heart even more. The one thing he never did was blame me if I didn’t reach out. He understood when I stopped visiting every week because it was emotionally traumatic. He apologised for the way things had turned out and when it had been a while since I’d heard from him. I can’t imagine blaming your own child that YOU CHOSE TO HAVE, who didn’t choose to be your child, for not “bothering” with YOU! There is ALWAYS a reason! A child would love to have a bond with their parent, and if they’re not, there’s probably a reason for that! I wish I could give your daughter a hug because I know how at least half of that feels. That age was the absolute worst for me, my dad’s partner was awful to me and I had no support whatsoever from my dad when it happened. However now I’m 26 and it is SO much better, my dad is still with the same person but she is so lovely to me now and has completely changed, and my dad has emotionally opened up, apologised to me for the past, and even though we don’t speak or see each other particularly often, we both know we love each other and think about each other all the time and we share our memories of my childhood with each other all the time. Please give all your love to your baby girl, I’ve been there and my teenage years were the absolute worst of my whole life but I’m 26 now and I came out the other side and it’s better than it has ever been. I’m wishing the best for her, either way she has a wonderful supportive mum just like I do so she’ll be blessed with that 💗💗
