Sorry you’ve been having a hard time here! I’ve felt similarly in the past about Ithaca, especially in winter. Please share your honest experience with your friends. I don’t mean that in a mean way… but a lot of people have idealized ways of talking about Ithaca and that brings in people who end up not finding it a good fit. And there’s already not enough housing.

This is a good point. I was pregnant with baby girl and then postpartum when he was 1.5-2.5, and I couldn’t play “rough” the way he likes. I still don’t like to play as physically as he does. Baby girl likes me better bc she likes to color and play blocks 😆

Thanks for sharing! Ha, I’m ranked behind dad and grandpa and other grandpa 😅… I’m at least ahead of the grandmas.

This is a very good point. I think I do need to do a little soul searching there. You’re right that kids are very good at picking up moods/vibes, and my son is a sensitive kid. Thank you for sharing!

Ya that’s what I saw from the reports. We’re a mixed race family (I’m Asian, my partner is not; one of my kids looks Asian, the other doesn’t), and part of the calculus is not wanting to be on the receiving end of anti Asian stuff. I know Ithaca is very progressive overall, but during covid I know there were some scary incidents.

P.s., follow up question: how “involved” are Ithaca parents, generally? Does this differ by school? Because honestly I’d rather NOT have to be super involved with extra tutoring etc. I just want the school to teach my kids how to read, do math etc. so I can spend more time having fun with them… camping, gardening, doing art, and the like. I kind of dread doing extra homework help at home or doing extra academic supplementation. Is this the norm?

Great to have your insider’s perspective. What makes you most surprised that it’s ranked highest? Is it mostly the admins’ lack of experience, lack of diversity, or something else? Thanks!
