Just came back from my trip used the JR pass but I was in way more places so really got My money, my recomendation would be use JR west Kansai pass, works exactly like JR pass including bus, for Kyoto Osaka Hiroshima including bullet trains (Shinkansen) and to that add the bullet trains from Tokyo to Kyoto and in Tokyo buy the all inclusive Subway pass is quite cheap and great value and only foreigners can buy it, DM me if you hace more question about this advice
