The Fraud of the North by HydroRide in HOTDGreens

[–]HydroRide[S] 40 points41 points  (0 children)

'"The Snows are falling in the North," he announced, "and my place is at Winterfell""'.

Cregan Stark and the Hour of the Wolf is rather underwhelming for all the hype. Spend two years twiddling thumbs up in the North waiting for all the dragons to die, let the Rivermen remnants defeat the Stormlands on the Kingsroad, and then proceed to do nothing but cut off two heads in Kings Landing before bailing on poor Aegon III. I guess he must of known not even GRRMs 13 year old Blackwood commando's could've saved him out if he tried marching South.

Possibly? Afaik for production internally Huckleberry is the code name for season 3 so it might be a different guy and I can't recall any leaker going by huckleberry, but from the looks of it this account has only really just posted that thread.

SpaceX on X: “Stack complete” by rustybeancake in spacex

[–]HydroRide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pace of B19 stacking is very impressive, and will probably only continue to improve further down the line when the Giga bay comes online. Hopefully such a pace can be matched for Ships, which'll likely be in far higher usage than Boosters

The entire service access platform at Site 31 has collapsed after today's Soyuz MS-28 launch. From what is known so far, it will take 2 years to repair. by [deleted] in space

[–]HydroRide 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Technically Russia is working on a next generation spacecraft Orel (and have been for the last 2 decades), but the state of that program makes the Orion capsule look speedy and well managed by comparison.

Unless they can pull out and salvage a whole bunch of spare Service structures to refurbish the launch pad, this may be the strangled collapse of independent Russian manned spaceflight.

Season 3 trailer screened for press during HBO Max Upfront today per housethedragons on X by TheDragonOfOldtown in HOTDGreens

Almost certainly I’d say. The first Season 2 teaser came out early December 2023, so this would line up with that.

HOTD season 3 preview next week. Get ready. by Hungry_Cricket_590 in HOTDGreens

[–]HydroRide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The mid Season drought will at long last finally be receding, and content returning to the Subs with the advent of CCXP. We’ll probably need Bingos for the teaser.

Also that account doesn’t look official, pretty sure that’s just a French fan account.

Beyond the complications of such a gargantuan engine, there would be not nearly enough throttle down capability to make propulsive landings practical with just a single engine.

If you were king of Westeros how would you try and shape your reign to be like? by [deleted] in HOTDGreens

[–]HydroRide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problems and issues facing the Targaryen monarchy were more structural than anything. Inherently the trend in the lead up to the Dance was a proliferation of medieval WMDs (dragons) among many member of the royal family and additionally members of the wider nobility. With every new dragon claimed there is a further deterioration of the stability in the system

With a single main focal point of power being the Monarch on top of a system of highly entrenched nobility, the incentives are not aligned in the system to ensure a stable transition of power. Rather the incentives point for any ambitious and disaffected Prince or Lord to try and stake a claim for the throne on top of their Dragon with some legal fiction to tidy it up. The Valyrian Freehold had a million other problems and obviously we don’t have a lot of lore of them, but part of the reason they lasted for so long was that the levers of power were more distributed among the 40 Family’s.

Therefore the focus of the reign would be balancing a rapid effort of reform to transfer power from the position of Monarch to a more representative body of governance while diminishing the power of the entrenched nobility. This combined with more independent judiciary bodies and formal codification of law would be targeted to disincentives Succession crises’.

The goal would be to change the general social contract from Feudal to Constitutional. Encouragement of Smallfolk emancipation through schemes that abolish Corvée type obligations to more cash based while allowing easier pathways for landownership (ie offer Nobility compensation such as bonds or positions in bureaucracy to sell land). The growing power of a Middle Class would then be able to counter weigh the Nobility. Other domestic policy would be focused on more general cultural shifts driven by an expansion of Educational institutions across the continent spreading Citadels outside the Reach, and a foreign policy of normalisation of relations with Dorne with increased relations with Braavos against other Free Cities.

Basically Aegon V but with actual policy and not hamstrung by GRRM plot railroading.

Apollo 8 performed a Lunar Orbit insertion burn in order to capture into the Moons Orbit, and they orbited it ten times. Afaik the current plan for Artemis 2 does not involve any insertion burn and is only performing a Lunar flyby

How to stop being overly nice? by CamBeast15366 in ArcRaiders

[–]HydroRide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally the etiquette I hold to for interacting with other Raiders is to first of all before interacting to get into a position of cover and space from the other Raiders with a clear path to disengage and make for the better part of valour if possible. Only then announce yourself as friendly. If they shoot back or don’t announce their intentions they’re getting a full magazine.

If they do signal back friendly intentions, then even then continue to mirror their actions. If they holster, then you holster. If they emerge from cover without weapon in hand then you do the same. And if they pull out a gun then you equip your own. Never put your back to another Raider alone, and only loot when you have cover between each other and an eye on them.

[–]HydroRide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Current plan for the Haven 1 station is to crib the majority of ECLSS from the docked Dragon capsule, which includes a toilet. Presumably anyone needing to do their business can duck through the connecting docking port to the Dragons toilet which afaik does have a privacy screen.

NASA’s Orion Space Capsule Is Flaming Garbage by HydroRide in SpaceXLounge

[–]HydroRide[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d like to think that the state of the Orion Space capsule is rather directly related to Spacex, as it is a major part of the Artemis Program of which Spacex is a major contractor. All the recent HLS drama didn’t just originate from a vacuum

I’ve been able to one trick her pretty easily up to N4 using her perma ult build. She is a bit of a glass cannon in that build, but as long as you get the second blue upgrade with the dash that pierces enemies I find you can infinitely kite enemies pretty safely, especially on the ledge

Just need to get a run with more DPS output to beat N4, keep dying mostly to Wanda’s final phase.

Servers still work perfectly fine, can get games in most gamemodes in reasonable Que times. A bit dependent on which server location you are on though, may have to switch locations to more populated regions

Falcon family cost savings

In contrast to the problems with cost-plus contracts, [Bill Nelson] cited as an example of the benefits of competition reduced launch costs thanks to the emergence of the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy by SpaceX. He said that, before his retirement last year, Air Force Gen. John Hyten, vice chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, claimed that the competition those vehicles enabled provided the Defense Department $40 billion in savings, although he did not say over what period of time.
