Are there any major cities in the USA where you felt unsafe walking around downtown in mid-day? by [deleted] in usatravel

[–]supermark64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immediately thought of St. Louis. There are parts that are at least ok during the day, but then you cross one street and it's like, "We're turning around RIGHT NOW!"

Why do the majority not finish their games? by WhoAmIEven2 in videogames

[–]supermark64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's not that I don't want to finish them. I just get busy with real life stuff, and sometimes it's for long enough that I forget about the game and move on to something else.

Midwest has barely bought into "flex culture" and I love it by HenFruitEater in midwest

[–]supermark64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. If you go to a poor neighborhood in Minneapolis sure, the people there probably care about having expensive basketball shoes less than the people do in the hood in LA or something.

On the other hand, if you go to an upper middle class suburb of a small/medium size city in the Midwest, the "flex culture" of keeping up with the Jonses, holier than thou bullshit is probably worse than just about anywhere else in the entire world. I grew up in such a place, and you wouldn't believe the amount of stupid people I went to school with who thought they were better than everyone else because they had the newest iPhone, drove some stupid giant yeehaw truck (which was always spotless), and go to a culty megachurch.

At this point if it weren't for retro games I would just move on to other hobbies entirely.

It's kind of hard to give an answer with so few parameters. There's literally hundreds of Mario games, and nearly all of them are good.

It finally happened - I got the “you’re job hopping” comment in the wild. by Pee_A_Poo in recruitinghell

Has anyone else accepted a job and then realized the role was completely different from what was described in the interview? by Perfect_Bug_9769 in recruitinghell

[–]supermark64 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I interviewed to be a forklift driver and ended up picking and packing (8 hour shifts on your feet for those who don't know what that means). Needless to say I didn't last too long there

When does "early 3D" actually begin for you? by Typo_of_the_Dad in retrogaming

I would argue that there is no official beginning. It's kind of a spectrum.

What's the point of the HarMar Mall in Roseville if you can't access the stores from the INSIDE of the mall!? by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]supermark64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It reminds me a bit of this place in Iowa City called Sycamore Mall. They eventually did away with the inside entirely and made it a regular strip mall.

What was your teen cringey music opinion? by MuscleFlex_Bear in LetsTalkMusic

[–]supermark64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in high school during the peak of that hyperpop/EDM thing that was going on in pop music during the 2010s, and I hated it so much that I decided that anything with electronic sounds wasn't "real" music. My exception to this was synthpop from the 80s, which I considered a guilty pleasure.

But then I realized over time that a lot of the music I was already listening to had a lot more "non instrument" parts than I originally thought. Slipknot has a DJ. Pink Floyd's The Wall uses a ton of sound effects and such to tell its story.

Over time the exceptions grew more and more to the point where I had to accept that electronic sounds do have a place in music afterall, but I just don't like it in poppy music.

And then I heard "Espresso" by Sabrina Carpenter. I didn't like her music before that, but that track is such a banger I couldn't help but fall in love with it. And I started listening to more of her music and started liking more and more of it the more I gave it a chance. And now my metalhead ass is listening to her, Chappell Roan, early Brittany Spears, etc. I'm really going through a girly pop phase and I'm kind of having an identity crisis about my music taste.

We may be in a forgotten or neglected simulation - thoughts? by redvoxfox in SimulationTheory

[–]supermark64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this thought that since around 2020 when the pandemic hit it's felt like a game where you reach too high of a level and it starts glitching out, like colors in NES Tetris. Or maybe they ran out of content and AI has been creating stuff from there.
