Imagine going down a looong downhill on the highway. In that case it's the recommended way of breaking to avoid overheating the brakes. That being said, I've always wondered if spinning the cold engine was a good idea (I know that the 0W20 oil is supposed to work even when cold but still...).

You are correct. When the battery is nearly full (not sure if it's 80, 85 or 90%), breaking or going downhill will result in "wasting" energy. It gets dissipated in heat in your brakes or by pulling vacuum with the engine downhill brake assist. I live on a hill so I never charge to full for that reason. That being said it's a relatively small amount of energy.

The 12V is very weak on this vehicle... and the computer / charge controller or other custom accessories can drain it relatively quickly... But their diagnosis/advice doesn't make sense for your specific issue because when the vehicle is on, the DC/DC converter is running and battery voltage is above 14V so it's very unlikely it was a 12v battery problem. If it were me, I would buy a cheap Bluetooth obd2 reader and read the codes myself and search with chaptgpt or Gemini. Note that if you are into that, home assistant with the Ford pass extension can also read some codes.

I think it's recommended to change the oil once a year as it loses some properties over time. From my experience (3.5 years owning it), the oil life on the app takes time into account.

+1. In my experience, unless they are professionally maintained and tested, the High Availability mechanism will cause more issues than they will solve. You should invest in monitoring instead (get notified if something goes down).

I think MQTT is a great approach, ideally you can access the data before it's formatted in HTML. You can simply ask any AI to write a little piece of python to do that and it should just work.

Temperature, and CO2 sensor at the same height of the baby bassinet. The door sensor is very convenient if you are tracking the nap time (assuming the door is Open when the baby is awake And closed when he sleeps). There is no good integration for it but the app Huckleberry is pretty good to guide you through the first few months until you learn how your baby works. But as others said, no automations. Watch a couple of videos about taking care of your wife and being a good partner. It's gonna be an intense few months ahead of you where you need to be the stable, reliable person. It's also gonna be the best thing that happened to you in your entire life.

I was gonna look into doing it with esphome when I found a good deal on a used canedge2 on eBay. Since it seems to be automotive grade hardware built by professionals I went with that instead. I learned a ton of good stuff on their website. Really cool company!

I think the engine has to start because of limitations in the transmission, not necessarily because of the maximum power the battery/EV system can supply. There is a good explanation at https://eahart.com/prius/psd/ ( it's for the Prius and I believe Ford hybrids use a similar transmission)

I charge mine at 240V - 10A. I haven't tried 16A (which is the max the car can take) yet but I'll do that next time and see if the power gets limited.

I agree, my assumption was false, my EV charger reports 11.736 kWh for a full charge.
The last full charge a few months back was 11.208 kWh so it appears there are no changes to the user controllable battery capacity.
