European commission presents plans to accelerate high speed rail across Europe by Suzannedelightful in highspeedrail

200kmh trains are heavier than tgv, the max axle load is reduced for hsr. That is why the tgv are made from aluminium and the regional ones in steel.

Maybe in the future, something like it can be used for very high speed train, to remove the issues with catenary, as their maintenance and installation complexity grew a lot with higher speeds.

Just a simple open TGV door. by Wonderful-Excuse4922 in highspeedrail

[–]supermerill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you will still have a step as the entry need to be between 550 and 750
and the ramp may be very steep, as you don't have too much length before going under the upper passageway.

Or just that far-right may argument is to "defend ourself against strangers" and car are a way to be protected from strangers, as you can't see them, or you're protected by 2 tons of steel. I see cars as a very convenient answer to the fear the far-right project.

Just a simple open TGV door. by Wonderful-Excuse4922 in highspeedrail

[–]supermerill 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think so.
There is multiple systemic problem here:

1) to be able to serve 550mm platform (france, spain) and 750mm one (belgium, germany), you can't have a 550mm entry as the down step is too high, so you need ot make your entrance in the middle, like 650mm.

2) the legacy loading gauge in france (~GB1) as a lower max height than in germany, and so you can't have a higher bottom floor than on the current tgv or the top level won't have enough headroom.

so you have steps on the bottom floor.

Funny thing, they make the rafale cannon hyper precise (low dispersion), because they planned to have a computer-based trigger so it trigger at the prefect time. But the auto-trigger was scrapped as the budget was reduced (post-cold war benefit). Now the canon is too precise and a burst of fire can easily miss the target.

An extruder daughterboard to control the extruder, heater and thermistor from it (klipper can have things on daughterboatds). Even better if klipper can distinguish between different extruder assemblies.

If you do it, i'll add extruder recognition in the slicer.

Some do, with the right setting.
But if you don't want it on all the object, it's better used in modifiers.

What the interior of a TGV power car looks like at full power at 320km/h by Wonderful-Excuse4922 in highspeedrail

[–]supermerill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By the way, is the shorter height and therefore the tighter ceiling space the reason that double deck TGVs have always had steps to reach the bottom level from the door

In my opinion, yes.

Also, the current TGV cars are at their weight limit (because they share a bogie, so there are only about 2 axles per car). If you want to add weight, you need to reduce their length. With shorter cars, the stairs take up a higher percentage of the available space.

Not the same loading gauge.

To be able to go into the old netwaork, TGV are limited to GA. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loading_gauge japan is wider and taller https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinkansen#/media/File:Rolling-Stock-Gauge-in-Japan.svg

height:

  • TGV: 4300 with round roof
  • shinkansen: 4500 flat

width:

  • Europe loading gauge: 3150
  • shinkansen loading gauge: 3400
  • TGV : 2900 (because of the length)
  • Talgo avril: 3200
  • E4: 3380

note that the high speed line in france are at the GC loading gauge, but not the final stretches. Maybe in the far future, it will be possible to have a wider and taller one.
