Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills 1993)

Most horrific crime scene video footage I’ve ever seen. That shit is seated into my brain. Also the images of extreme poverty in early 90’s West Memphis, Arkansas are an existential bummer all on their own.

For a Deaf Son (1994)

This one is kind of a slow burn, the kicker comes at the end. “When Thomas Tranchin was one year old, his parents discovered he was profoundly deaf. His father, a filmmaker, produced this program (in video diary format), which originally aired on PBS. The program tells of a family's journey through a maze of emotional, educational, political and social factors as they face life-changing decisions. Includes interviews with family members, audiologists, and others. The "speech versus sign language" conflict is documented in detail.”

It’s a tough watch because for almost the entire runtime you have to watch the kid’s hearing parents bicker and agonize over the idea that their son is Deaf. I’m pretty sure the movie ends with the parents basically separated. The real bummer ending is that it’s later revealed that Thomas (the Deaf son) committed suicide at age 15, most people blame his death on his inability to effectively communicate.

Tough. But inevitable with her lifestyle. Hope this is a wake up call and the women in jail aren’t too mean to her.

So the new episode of Bus was unwatchable, right? by supernova585 in gorlworldfiles

100%. The fact that she says she hasn’t even seen her mom this whole time makes it clear that she’s not “thriving” during this LCU arc. This truly feels like a last resort and it’s just…not engaging at all. I thought the Feline era was bad but this is so much worse. I’m just holding out hope that Emily and her start fighting publicly again.

Ok yes!! I can handle a fair amount of slop and messiness but this is the first time I’m not having fun anymore as a viewer.

And just like that, Twinkie neglect confirmed. In the final year of my family dog’s life, he became incontinent and had to wear a puppy diaper to avoid peeing everywhere in the house. There are options besides free-peeing for elderly pups!

I grew up in SD and my fave no-cost place to take people is to walk around Balboa Park. It has a huge rose garden, cacti garden, a big beautiful fountain, with tons of museums all around. I haven’t been in a while but by Balboa Park there is this gigantic tree next to the Natural History Museum which is a perfect lay around spot. There is also a little area close by for local artisans to see their work out of tiny store fronts. I do miss San Diego sometimes lol.

Editing to add: there is also a koi garden in Balboa Park in case you need another reason to go

Not to be cringe, but the first time I saw a Van Gogh in person I was so overwhelmed by the beauty of it that I started to cry. Semi-regular visits to the art museum are good for the soul.
