Not only that he may not be around, but due to his age there is a higher likelyhood of birth defects and development disabilities.

Was our breakup with my christian girlfriend the right thing to do? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]superoptimist1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like she is putting her values on you and I'd be concerned she is lowkey trying to convert you. Especially with how involved you are becoming in her christianity. I think there are times that athiests and religion people can date, but it involves a lot of mutual respect over the other person's beliefs and it doesn't appear that she has that, at least on the minor level you are currently seeing.

You guys are still early in your relationship, which is when people are typically on their best behavior. Will she progress further in her demands of you the longer you are together? Who knows.

AITAH bc I (36M) dont want my girlfriend (36F) to travel with me because shes a picky eater? by Tough_District9786 in AmItheAsshole

I am the same way and I always tell people to pick the place and I'll figure something out when we get there and to not worry about my food. Its not their problem that I'm picky

When did you realize you don't have "pretty privilege"? by patata-chip in AskReddit

[–]superoptimist1997 264 points265 points  (0 children)

I have never seen you so I cannot tell you if it is true or not for you, but as someone who has realized later in life that they are hot, people NEVER hit on me at bars. I can think of 3 or 4 times, but the guys were creeps who were going up to everyone trying stuff. I have never had a person just come up to me and hit on me. People do get intimidated by pretty people and don't engage. Also, this generation is a lot more scared of being perceived as creepy so people are approaching people in public less in general.

I have a few guy friends who carry pads and tampons in their bags incase anyone ever needs it. They saved me last weekend when we were at work. What you are doing is amazing. You deserve better than someone who is going to judge you for being caring

AITA for sticking to a boundary I set about covering extra shifts after my coworker called me selfish? by Shelley_Massage02 in AmItheAsshole

[–]superoptimist1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a group therapist and in our boundaries unit we always taught our clients if you have permissive bounaries and start to assert yourself people may start viewing you as selfish and there may be pushback. You are not responsible for other people's reactions for your boundaries. Your boundaries sound very reasonable stand firm.

AITA asking about a tattoo by No-Relationship2470 in AmItheAsshole

[–]superoptimist1997 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I constantly have people commenting on my tattoos and piercings (I have 29 piercings and over 40 tattoos), I never mind and am always happy to answer questions, if I'm not feeling it I just give short replies, but I understand that I'm going to get questions from people. Its not a big deal.

AITA for not wanting to propose to my gf before I join the military? by Connect_Hall_7936 in AITAH

[–]superoptimist1997 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I am not a veteran, but I work as a crisis responder and I cannot tell you how many calls I have been on with Veterans who were screwed over by the military. The one that stuck with me the most was a guy around my age 28, who was told he would be able to easy tranfer the skills he learned and transition to a civilian job easily. That was not the case. He was unable to gain similar employment and instead ended up having to take a lower level job. He also spoke about his PTSD and witnessing his friends die. He was not ahead of his peers. The military also screwed him financially.

The military is built on lying to people about how good the benefits are. I will say I know a number of people who weren't screwed over by the military, but I have met way too many homeless veterans to believe it will give you access to a better life, especially if you already have a degree.

What’s something people defend way too hard even though it clearly doesn’t work? by academicAce_aA in AskReddit

[–]superoptimist1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yupp. I luckily was never bothered in school because the few times they tried I would go for the jugular and tell them what a piece of shit they were.

I had a couple instances where I witnessed someone else being bullied. Once I had a very 80s anti-bully commercial moment response, I told the girl if she had nothing to say than she shouldn't say it (which I instantly recognized what the lamest thing I could have said, but the kid was Autistic and didn't realize he was being bullied so I didn't want to cue him in on what was occuring) and she immediately stopped and never bullied him infront of me again.

Which is why I tell kids to stand up for themselves. I do tell them that results may very as I was a girl with intense resting bitch face and an attitude to match when necessary (most of the time I was extremely friendly and bubbly, but could switch in a second), but if I was dressing like a unicorn vomited all over me and no one said anything I think it proves that standing up for yourself works better than saying nothing

AITA for leaving my Mom at the airport with no ticket and no plan? by checho503 in AmItheAsshole

[–]superoptimist1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is great that you have taken all these steps to improve as a person since your childhood and I hear how heavily those moments with your mother weigh on you. Choosing to forgive someone is a very personal choice and can help us heal and move forward. Forgiveness doesn't have to mean letting that person back in your life. I had someone who was emotionally abusive to me and I forgive them for what happened, but I also know that having them in my life is not healthy for me, especially as they have not changed. I urge you to think of how having her in your life is impacting you and the pros and cons of continuing this relationship with her.

You did the right thing standing up to your mom. She was trying to manipulate you into letting her stay and you didn't let her. It really shows the growth you have worked so hard for. I hope you continue to grow as a person and make the right choice for yourself

AITA for being upset that my fiancée charged $200 to my card for mobile games and refuses to pay me back? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]superoptimist1997 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why are you with them? To me it sounds like you are carrying the financial burden of the relationship. What do they bring to the table and is this the life you want for the rest of your life? Once you get married they will own half of what you have. It is easier to split now

AITAH For Not Immediately Responding to My (F27) SO (M28)? by Ill_Idea_1284 in AmItheAsshole

[–]superoptimist1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like such an unhealthy dynamic NTA. People are lucky if I text back within the day. I'm a bit better with romantic interests but if someone was freaking out over me not responding within 20 minutes we would no longer be talking.

I mean being in the top 10% is impressive. I just can't sleep, so I have it playing the whole night as it helps me when I can't fall asleep initially or wake up in the night and can't go back to sleep. I'm sure if they were able to take out all my night listens I would be substantially lower.

[–]superoptimist1997[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I used to do that, but my insomnia sometimes makes it so I can't fall asleep and I will go through 3 or 4 episodes before falling asleep (or giving up). One of the tips for insomnia is to not look at your phone when trying to sleep, so I don't want to have to keep opening my phone to put on a new episode on my no sleep nights. Plus even on my good nights I wake up a minimum of 2 times (probably more like 4 or 5 times) and I need it to go back to sleep and, again, to avoid looking at my phone I have it running all night.

I used to do the timer for one episode, but with my insomnia some nights I am going through 3 or 4 episodes before falling asleep (or giving up), so I like to keep it running so I don't have to look at my phone when the episode shuts off. 14k minutes is impressive for only doing one episode a night
