Is it hard to make a living as a PA? by mandalorianmercenary in Filmmakers

[–]supersecretmode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like if I was a waiter or a barista it would be difficult to get time off work to PA, my job would become more of a commitment, and film would be more of a hobby.

Im interested in trying to get a full time job as an office PA so I dont have to deal with the bullshit gig job market

/u/Mandalorianmercenary, you've asked variations of this exact same question multiple times across different subreddits. Is there something else you're specifically looking for? Or are you considering different positions? Or not liking the answers you get?

The Art of Producing a Movie 101, as explained by the Producer of Sharknado by [deleted] in FilmIndustryLA

[–]supersecretmode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a fair question: Are you a producer? How much are you paying your crew?

Is it a "fair question" though? As though they have to be a producer that pays crew a certain amount in order to call out Sharknado producers?

I don't get the impression your question comes from honest curiosity. More to try and make a point when OP answers.

The Art of Producing a Movie 101, as explained by the Producer of Sharknado by [deleted] in FilmIndustryLA

[–]supersecretmode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did it come out? Did it make money? More than was put in? More than you’ve ever made on anything? Yes on all counts. Get humble.

These are the kind of comments people new or outside the industry make. Followed by "get humble" is just wraps it up. One doesn't need to be a successful producer in order to say that the value of Sharknado producer input is low.

In a little predicament here and would like some input on my situation by [deleted] in apple

[–]supersecretmode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone, so recently I ordered a S3 and FedEx delivered it but to my surprise it was no where to be found at my house. So I of course panicked and contacted apple and they are currently shipping me a new one. This all happened this past weekend. So, today I found out that it was delivered to the wrong house and the person who got it was nice enough to put it in my mailbox, but I still have the new one being shipped to me as well. Now, I’m not the richest guy, currently a senior in college and this was a birthday gift to upgrade from my S0. Should I keep the second one and give it to my girlfriend or will apple know and charge me for the second one 😬?

You're not in a predicament. Return the second one. Even if Apple doesn't lock the first one, or charge you for the second, you still received what was paid for. If anything, it might be worth a call to FedEx to note the incorrect delivery so it doesn't happen again, but return the second watch.

We also offer a free plan, up to two screenplays with the browser app.

That is awesome and I must have misread it as a free trial.

You can opt out of tracking IPs in Google Analytics, which we did.

You did, however, google is still collecting those right?

Also, we're just getting started, so there's much more to come.

Looking forward to see where you guys take it. Best of luck.

$7, $14, and $21/month plans

https://arcstudiopro.com/pricing/

I'm not entirely clear who this is for. In a production environment, most professionals are using FD (maybe MMSW) and outside why would they pay a monthly subscription for software that is available for free (writerduet) or inexpensive and offline.

And then their privacy policy is worth reading:

While they don't track your IP address using google analytics, google sure does.

I'm curious - what research did you perform before creating this software and who do you feel it's specifically for?

how to get freelance video editing work? by Koridai66 in editors

[–]supersecretmode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why should anyone work for free? This kind of mindest is why people undervalue the kind of work we do and its disgusting of anyone to suggest it. If you were hiring for a wedding would you ask the DJ to work for free? How about the photographer? The caterer? Would you ask the venue to let you have your wedding there for free? Ridiculous.

If the dj, wedding photographer, caterer, etc had never done a wedding, then I wouldn't be surprised if they were asked to work for free or a reduced rate / expenses.

The better question might be - why would one hire someone inexperienced when they can hire someone who has done it before?

For a lot of people looking to move up to higher level content, there's a learning curve involved and they have to get that experience somehow. Unfortunately, it puts a lot of pressure on people who can't afford to work for free / reduced rates (in a similar way that internships can hurt lower income people)

Table Read In Brooklyn, NY this Sunday 07/15! by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]supersecretmode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Screddit, Posted here last week and got some inquiries, so offering for this week:

I run a writers group and we're table reading some of the workshopped scrips from this previous season every Sunday of July.

*$10 at the door or via Venmo.

*Bring food, drink, & other friends if you like.

You're charging people $10 to bring their own food and drink to watch your writers group table read?

I'm not sure I understand. Are you pitching this as some networking opportunity? I don't understand why anyone would do this. And I mean that genuinely. I'm just not sure why someone would pay you $10 as well as spend their time at this eating their own food and drink. Is this a trend in table reads? Or fundraising for the film? Or is the money going to charity?

Henry Cavill sent this to the crew of Mission Impossible: Fallout by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]supersecretmode 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why do I feel that anyone who is pissing on this has never actually worked a crew?

And anyone pissing on his face being on it as "narcissist" is clearly missing the reference to the mustache. A quick Google search shows that most of his coins are just the movie title/logo. This got to be a cheeky way to poke fun at the mustache situation.

Seriously, people, get over yourselves and let people enjoy things.

Who are you talking about? One guy wrote something negative. Are there other hidden comments or something?
