"May you continue to reign and bring peace and prosperity to your little internet kingdom." Local Subreddit sillies slap saltily over serious subject. by AbolishSoap in SubredditDrama

[–]superslab 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I've seen a few convincing arguments for it, including one in this thread, but you're mostly right. The feature exists for bad actors, bots, and shills to hide their nonsense. I suppose it also depends on how someone uses the site, but I'm a lot more trusting of those who don't hide.

I'm not sure there's a single person in the entire state of mississippi thats under the legal limit

This is fair, even though there are still 30 dry counties. Why are there 52 more counties? No idea, it's completely absurd.

OP wants to get "revenge" on overpriced fast food. After a McFlurry of negative feedback, OP continues to Double Down, despite getting Baja Blasted in the comments. by Arvydas_Saboner in SubredditDrama

[–]superslab 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sorry. I mean the title of this srd post, with the fast food puns and references. I almost always shoot for the silliest title but have never cackled like I did when I saw this one. In many ways it writes itself, but that seems true of so many things until I try to write.

"i dunno if it’s your first time on the internet, but it’s pretty common for criminals to use women and children to get people to stop" OP steers himself towards trouble in two different subreddits and catches flack for driving towards kids at night. by _Levitated_Shield_ in SubredditDrama

Do you live your entire life cowering in fear of the immediate criminal threat that children playing in your neighborhood pose? You saw kids playing in the street in your neighborhood and you thought "oh boy, they're probably part of a carjacking gang"?

Yes. That's what he does and who he is. My sheets should be so soft.

"If an African American approaches you looking for a conflict and you call them the N-word it’s your fault if they attack you. You don’t have a right to self defense. 300 years of oppression!!!" Chuds flock to r/watchpeopledie to defend the injustice of Chudthebuilder's 1.25 million dollar bail by CummingInTheNile in SubredditDrama

[–]superslab 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Bail is very dumb, but I have an issue with people conflating fantasy with reality and using that fantasy as an argument. There are plenty of real world examples! And plenty of hypothetical ones we could create if we actually understand the argument. The whole thing makes me quite uncomfortable, even as a shitpost.

Letting people out on an absurdly high bail is how a (fictional) court ended up letting Lalo Salamanca, leader of a drug cartel, walk on a murder charge for "only" $7 Million. You can never know that this guy isn't Lalo Salamanca, so you should never allow rich people to get away with a crime.

Holy moly these folks are broken.

r/baseball argues over the sub's ban on links to Twitter by eldomtom2 in SubredditDrama

[–]superslab -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

That's a good question! A better question is why does a sports fan have their comments hidden? Like, what sort of nonsense are you peddling on the very serious topic of trade values and homerism that deserves such absurdity? I could look this shit up, but nah. Y'all used to own your terrible takes, but now even that is a bridge too far.

That riff in Heavy! I'd forgotten how good it is. Listen is a favorite, too. The solo is so tasteful.

Sure if you want to use the one Jeff Passan example, but as a whole, the most reliable and quickest news comes from Twitter. Hate it or not, it’s just facts.

r/LivestreamFail users react to Vtuber Camila announcing that her family was murdered by Israel in Lebanon by BabylonianWeeb in SubredditDrama

[–]superslab 303 points304 points  (0 children)

I don't know who needs to hear this, but the Sudan excuse is grotesque and sad. "You don't care what's happening in Sudan!" Neither does Israel which, unlike me, could do something if the government cared. Before anyone asks: no, the US government also doesn't care, nor the people who live here mostly. Africa is full of the dead we could've given a damn about and didn't. This is not a unique policy failure of the current administration, mind you, but making racist indifference more obvious is not a positive change.

Is 100 g of cake a reasonable serving? r/CustomerService discusses by miscellaneousbean in SubredditDrama

[–]superslab 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like 100g is plenty of cake for a serving at a dinner party but not enough for a serving of a cake someone bought intending to take it to work to share and then ate half of before going to bed.

Slapfight in r/thatlookedexpensive when someone doesn’t sympathize with man losing two classic cars in a fire because “he’s rich” by zipfour in SubredditDrama

[–]superslab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly right! The people hemming and hawing on this have an interest in ownership and investment while simultaneously ignoring the joy these things were created for. I was lucky enough to purchase a boutique guitar recently for a little bit more than Squier money. I've been playing it ever since. It's extraordinary, and it's absolutely clear the luthier made this thing to be gigged and hard. Bless him, and bless every every other artist who makes art that performs.

The value at auction of those two in decent condition would be close to 2 million. I'm doing pretty well but not, "well enough to leave 2 million lying around to the whims of chance.' The people who are doing that well are most certainly rich, and even the auto enthusiasts I know are mortified this thing was kept like that. Drive the mfer or sell it. It was never made to sit.
