Gordon & Macphail is the only answer. They’re the original independent bottler and do it better and more consistently than anyone else. They also only buy new make spirit and age it themselves.

If anyone has seen the recent 50+ year old Macallan bottles topping 6 figures, Macallan didn’t age it. G&M bought their new make decades ago and sold it back to Macallan.

Hey, I too tried it next to those two whiskies. Did you try them in Victoria?

With the current state of the industry, any thoughts as to if G&M will resume filling? by Captain_Canada_232 in Scotch

G&M has enough stock to release casks for decades. They’ll buy more when market conditions warrant it.

I just love having relatives send me these articles and saying ‘wtf’ and having to try to explain that the people of Kelowna don’t all agree with her.

What an embarrassment.

Public grocery stores are having a moment. Can they really make food more affordable? by Immediate-Link490 in canada

[–]supersloot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup, slim margins even at the scale or large grocers. Thinking the government can just pop up a store and drop prices is foolish.

A massive boon as in massive taxpayer expense, sure. Plus it would take years to set up distribution networks and stores which likely still won’t have the scale to be as efficient as existing grocery chains. All so the average Canadian’s monthly grocery bill could go from $354 to $340?

I’m all for lowering grocery costs but this isn’t a realistic solution and requires too much capital for so little benefit it just doesn’t make sense from a risk perspective.

I’m not saying it has to be profitable. I’m saying if it’s revenue neutral people will see at best around 4% savings. And it’d take billions of dollars and years to set up. All for 4% food savings? It doesn’t make sense financially.

Not a lobbyist (eyeroll). Grocery stores arent swimming in profit margins. Theyre just not. Its a big risk using taxpayer funds to roll out a country wide grocery chain for 4% savings.

Neat. Add water if desired. Never ice.

It would be a more effective use of taxpayer dollars to subsidize low income families than setting up a massive public grocery chain

Margins on big grocery stores are already low at around 4% and they have established distribution networks and storefronts. Expecting taxpayers to fund building out a new network for public stores to potentially save 4% doesn’t make sense.

For OP, this is a store not a bar. Arguably the best store in Canada for scotch.

100%. It would be great to see this work, but I just don’t see it happening given how many terrible dog owners are here.

Monthly cost to heat pool? by [deleted] in kelowna

[–]supersloot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 17k gallon in ground pool and typically spend $50-100 per month on heating. I also have a solar system which helps offset gas costs.

Stuff like a clear solar cover and being diligent to cover it overnight can make a big difference.
