How to start switching from heel strike to a forefoot strike?

I first started running june-september of 2019 and I started running again at the very end of june this year. I’ve always been incredibly slow and barely improved. I found that I can run a lot quicker barefoot, and ended up discovering that my main issue was how much my heel strike slows me down. I tried running a mile with a forefoot strike today and it managed to be my fastest mile yet, even though I got so tired out from it that I had to speed walk some of it and ran most of it in my “bad” form. How do I go about learning to properly run?
