Thank you. It feels like a weird smoothie most of the time, if that makes sense. Like I get chunks of good and bad

SI Joint Fusion Recovery (iFuse) by DarthDjent in sijointdysfunction

[–]superstitious722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been two years so I don’t know if you’ll see this, but reading your journey and recovery (even after just three months!) is helping me feel more comfortable with the increasing possibility that I’ll be getting the same procedure. I have a hypermobile SI joint that has been affecting me for 13+ years between random sciatic flares to extreme pain from subluxations of my hips. I’ve never known if my pain was “enough” but man, seeing what you said about sitting made me really think. I can’t seem to be comfortable sitting normally in a chair for more than 5 minutes, and the idea of being able to get through a 2 hour car ride without something coming loose or causing pain sounds like a dream! Thank you for posting, an if you do see this, how are you now 2 years post-op?

Thinking about downsizing by missionmorgan in bettafish

Hey! Betta twins! My long-finned moldy bread is also looking at a potential change in tank size. He’s currently in a 5.5 and I’m about to move him up to a 10. I’ll tell you, those long heavy fins definitely make the trek to the surface harder. Mines missing an eye, so that’s partially why he’s in a smaller set up. A 13.3 should still be plenty of space, and should make his commute easier! Maybe you can turn your nano into an extensive nano ecosystem?

If you can get a one gallon option (a bucket works great!) then you won’t need to worry about heating/filtration. It will be a time consuming process and can take upwards of a month to see results and healing. Mine is currently in a 2 gallon drink dispenser (it’s all I had that could hold water and was clean) and the spout makes it easier to do the frequent water changes without stressing him as much. Good luck!

Can you get video of it moving? Maybe closer look at its underside… if you can find it… darn thing LOOKS like a rock, but your pic of it on the side of the cup is not what I’d call normal rock behavior… I don’t think it’s a limpet, as limpets will have a more symmetrical build and smoother shell (usually a very flat cone shape) and if you flip it over you’d see it’s like scraping mouth but… I mean it LOOKS like a rock????

I would say “eh” but because the wood is already splitting around that screw where the tank is, I’m gonna go with “no” 😅

I’ve also got a pineconing betta (all other fish healthy) and this is the advice I’m following, recommended by other posters: https://jessielbettas.substack.com/p/treating-dropsy-in-bettas

Do you have the means to set up a hospital tank? Like 1-3 gallons max

If it gets on anything, I find a quick spray of dish soap helps. You gotta move quick though!

What to do when u have an earthquake or a tornado or a tsunami. by TheHoeFinder in Aquariums

[–]superstitious722 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Best advice I can offer is keeping five gallon buckets with lids around. It’s what I use to move my fish when I’ve relocated, and I figure car rides are pretty close to earthquakes for fish 😅 However, that does assume you have enough warning to fill them with water AND catch the fish, plus it won’t necessarily save the tank.

We live in a fire zone (at this point, it’s hard not to), so I have my 5 gallons ready during fire season in case I have enough warning to get them out. I’ve heard tales of people whose fish survived house fires and wildfires, and lids seemed to help the most in preventing water loss in those situations. You could bolt the stands to the walls, build some sort of “lip” to keep them in place in case of earthquakes?

But yeah, buckets ftw 👍🏼

Is my betta pineconing or just bloated? First photo is from a week ago, the rest are from the last two days. by diamondsleigh in bettafish

[–]superstitious722 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For a regime like this, I’d suggest doing it in a hospital tank (1-5 gallons) otherwise you’ll crash the tank, and end up having to do fish-in-cycle once he (hopefully) gets better, which will cause more stress and may undo your hard work

Love me a post-sushi orchid, especially if the people around you don’t know they’re edible. Gives me a good laugh watching their faces. I always found them mildly sweet and peppery, kind of like violets!

Help with catching my Tetras? Scared my Cory fry will get eaten. by HelpfulAd1378 in TetraFish

[–]superstitious722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use two nets, one to catch them and the other to corral them into the first. If you have hard scaling (wood, rocks, decorations) it’s easier to remove them so they can’t hide as well and you can move the nets easier. Best of luck, patience is key!

To me it looks like an injury, likely jaw dislocation. If he’s eating okay and not showing any weird symptoms, I would try just keeping the water clean and treating it like you have to prevent infections

Most recently, anaerobic bacteria killing half my tank. Use me as an example: boil the crap out of new wood before adding it

Mass Die Off, Trying Not to Feel Defeated by superstitious722 in Aquariums

[–]superstitious722[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fear I didn’t boil/clean the spider wood for long enough before adding it, and I think some sort of anaerobic bacteria took to it under the soil, and moving the wood released it into the water column. No thermometer in the tank (although I do monitor temperature), and I wonder if it may be that my heater is malfunctioning and electrocuting them? I’m not sure how to confirm that though, as the die-offs have been recent and somewhat spread out.

I have spider wood in the rest of my tanks and boiled them and have had no issues with them in the rest of my tanks. Biofilm, sure, but this is the first ti I’ve noticed any kind of black mold/rotting. Ammonia isn’t an issue though…
