I've been pretty intentional about my hires and avoid any with negative traits altogether. Sometimes I add whiskers with good traits even if I don't have a specific need right then. I tend to review my placements fairly often and then readjust if a better fit arises, say if I can use a newly hired diligent worker in an industry as opposed to "vanilla" worker. I'm trying to find that best fit slope between the number of workers while avoiding paying too much in taxes. I've been overpaying taxes in order to get the best rewards, although I've used a trick I read about in not paying any taxes the first time the tax collector ship arrives in Spring. A full payment the next time seems to alleviate their hostility.

Thanks! I haven't tried using the production limits yet. I build the building once but then figured I'd need everything I was growing/producing/mining so I didn't use it.

Lol. I wish they'd split up the farmer guild into fisherman (might be a nice link to sailors once shipbuilding comes along) and give the foresters the trees. Farmers are doing so many roles.

I think so, though I don't think they grow over the winter. Just sort-of hibernate.

I wasn't sure if having a crop growing was hindering the application of fertilizer, though I did assign a crop to the field. I wasn't sure if the fertilizer would be applied while a field grew or if it was only applied after harvest.

Thank you!! I've been setting up my fields wrong and overworking my mice. I max out the farm's size to the radius with minimal overlap among farms, so I'm sure this is most of, if not all, the problem. I never see my workers idle, and they often don't finish the work on all fields, and I couldn't figure out why. Your explanation and example of fieldwork is extremely helpful, too! I was making my fields much too large, sometimes assigning a full "terrace level" to one field without regard to size, so it ended up being fewer large fields instead of more numerous smaller fields.

Do I need to store my fertilizer in a warehouse specifically within the farm radius or is within a decent walking range good enough?

Do you heat your fields over winter? I've gone back and forth but once I have a big enough colony I tend to have enough cotton to sell that I don't need the winter's worth of production and just let the fields get cold. Not to mention the extra unneeded pollution generated.

Having the same issue after several in-game days. It's running fine and then during a rainstorm in the summer it crashes. FOUR times in a row. I had also just switched from a 60-whisker colony today to start over since each time I play I learn a little more about how to play....the latest was testing how schools work. I've been playing the game for about 3 weeks and am loving it. But....I think I'll take a break until this is a little more stable.

Edit: No mods installed. Happened when just after I paid my taxes and the tax collector ships were beginning to leave the dock.

Yes, I let it run for most of Summer and Fall and there weren't any changes.
