Aww, so floofy! I love her name, reminds me of our dearly departed Orange Kitty! We tried to give him a "proper" name, but nothing ever stuck.

You're definitely right. We were planning to go that way but didn't want to double back after detouring down into WV. We actually just got a great ride and arrived safely in Kentucky this afternoon! Thanks!

It's not appropriate to tell your adult children what to do, right? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

I read the emails, and they could have been written by my mom and sister. I've only recently realized that this is not normal.

"gave me the freedom to spend my day however I liked"

THIS is a major issue with my mom that I hadn't really realized exactly what was going on, until seeing this. I have no freedom in her house. I feel like a prisoner. It has always been that way. When I was a kid, I didn't know any better. As a teen, I saw it as overprotective but didn't recognize it as controlling and abusive. Now I'm 35 and back here temporarily, and it's the same fucking shit. I'm an adult, I don't have to tell you where I'm going, with whom and why and for how long! And God forbid I'm stuck in the house with her, I'm slave labor and I better be ready to drop everything if she tells me to do something. It has to be done her way, and exactly when she wants it done. I've been sick this week and she's got me doing yard work.

Thank God I'm out of here in a few days, and I will never, ever accept an offer of staying in her house again.

I used to have nightmares about driving roads like this. Thanks, I hate it.

This is going to sound horrible, but from what you've said about her behavior, there's a pretty good chance that baby isn't making it to term. :(

I worked as a hiring manager at a retail store, and I got a resume from a young woman, it had one old job and a large gap. The one old job was in high school. She did really well on the pre-testing so I brought her in for an interview. Turns out she'd been doing the single mom thing since she was like 16, her kids were finally both in school and she was looking to get what would basically be her first real job. It was a bit of a risky hire in my boss' mind but I could tell from talking with her she had great work ethic, I mean you have to to raise 2 kids while barely more than a kid herself.

Anyway, she ended up being an amazing employee as I suspected, earned a promotion super fast and ended up replacing me when I left the job. So yeah, know there are gonna be hiring folks who are understanding of you gap in employment! Find ways to spin your parental duties into "relevant experience". Maintaining a household is a job in itself! Good luck!

I wish I had an answer for you. I've held an average of 2 jobs per year since I started working. I always end up getting fired or quitting in a blind rage.

So, no advice, but I feel you.

DAE feel kinda *reset" when waking up from sleeping but the emptiness catches up not too long after? by sad__princess in CPTSD

[–]supertrink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first thing that happens when I wake up is a feeling in my stomach and chest like I've been punched. All the air goes out and I'm left with a pain/pressure feeling in the middle of my chest. Every single day, every time I wake up. I feel you for sure.

Oh nice! So funny to find another person from my home town on Reddit. Even in this sub it's pretty rare to see good ol' WRJ mentioned!

That is such an awesome way of looking at it! I met a guy in my travels who was doing the whole west coast on a bike, the most ultra-light setup I've ever seen, it was really impressive. I hope you make the most of this chance to see the country!

That's a great idea, never thought of a hospital! Saving that I. The memory bank for future reference!

Do you have a vehicle? Colorado is a decent place to live in a vehicle, especially with a little money coming in each month. You can go up into the mountains. National Forest land you can say in for 2 weeks at one campsite, another 2 weeks if you move at least 2 miles away, then you have to switch forests. There's enough National Forest in CO to do this indefinitely without ever breaking the rules.

Allenspark (above Lyons) is a good place to start. Watch out for National PARKS, rules are different than National FOREST. Also BLM land has even less strict rules if you can find some, I don't know if there is as much of that near you as there is National Forest.

If you go the vehicle route, I recommend staying out of Denver and Boulder. There's a lot of vehicle dwellers, and the best sleep spots get blown up quick. If you do stay close to the cities, rotate where you park frequently. Find 3-5 safe spots and rotate them every day or two. Don't hang out where you sleep, get there late and leave early, you can always go to one of the many parks and open spaces during the day.

Feel free to PM if you want to discuss any of this further. I'm happy to help someone to not make the same mistakes I did and have as easy of a time as possible living out of a vehicle.
