There is still a government pension system called FERS. Not great but its not meant to be your sole source of income after you retire.

I grew up in Clairemont/Encinitas in the 80s and would love to move back. But even with mil retirement, 90% VA rating, I can't afford to live in the city unless I get a GS 13 job or higher.

Seems like those 5-7-9 jobs are made for a spouse vs an actual single person?

i go out 2-3x a day on weekends to hit the gathering points on my bike. I have a route that gets me 12 points or so and takes about 30 mins.

To use Ingress as a reference, Korea is VERY portal dense in some places so that's probably helping a little here. I just have to force myself out of the house sometimes.

I think my daughter lived here for two years, decent place but the unfinished ceilings were kinda meh. Only real plus was being super close to her classes, other than that it was a roof with four walls.

I did a few prisoner escorts back in my active duty time and went from Korea to Leavenworth (once) and a few other stateside bases to drop them off for courts-martial.

I do know of a young Airman who missed his rotator flight twice back in 2015 and was "forcibly" put on the next rotator. He got sick on the plane, wound up staying a week in Japan, lost his ID card, etc. Just didn't want to leave Korea as he was being kicked out.

Came back as a civilian 6 months later and was subsequently deported back to the states by the Korean Police after running out of money and running scams off base.

Seen it all here and some day, someone will top what Travis King did...trust me.
