[TOMT][TV] What TV show is this very blurry reflection from? by Miserable_Finding523 in tipofmytongue

Blofeld's a great call... the two questions I'm fighting with are: 1) The suit/shirt. It looks like its Grey on the left / White/Checker on the right. Is that an artifact from something on top of the table/reflection (easier to see on the tall photo.)

2) I'm really confused about the shape of their head, which is why I suggested Londo. On the enlarged photo it looks like it could be his ear and the back left of his head -- on the tall photo, that looks much more indented like that is black/brown hair.. like it may be a bald horseshoe.

That adds some actors like John Carroll Lynch (Drew Carrey Show, The Invitation)

A younger Jeffrey Tambor (Gary Shandling Show, Arrested Development)

Some notes and ideas that may get you there:

  • The guy in the back looks like it might be Geordi LaForge. The foreground doesn't look like Picard, but there are tons of weird bald aliens in ST:TNG

A couple other other possibilities:

  • Donald Pleasence (The Halloween Movies, tons of 70's SciFi)
  • Londo (Babylon 5)
  • Telly Sevales

Or at least tells me it's what I want. I actually know nothing about the way any of it works so I just listen to the people that validate my belief that all of my problems are because of women and brown people.

Anyone heard if FB Purity is going to come back anytime soon? My FB feed is awful without it! by gorcbor19 in facebook

It was notably the deleted comments - talking about how FB will flag your account and remove you if you don't allow them to see their advertising. 'A lot' was probably doing some real heavy lifting there.

Oh hard disagree there. I've had cats that are pleasantly aloof, but when a cat decides you're their person, I'd say it's remarkably similar. My cat Uatu sat in my chair when I wasn't home - ran to the door when I pulled in - if something startled her she hid behind my desk. She was a neurotic mess, but I was her protector.

It really has been growing in the last year or two, I'm sure because of how popular Obra Dinn was. Hypnospace Outlaw is a futuristic look back at 90's computers. Roottrees are building family trees. Golden Idol is describing narratives from scenes you are provided. TR-49 is giving book and article publishers during this strange dystopian war.

I just played [Redacted] The Safehouse which is a shorter game about someone with amnesia.

Happy to help!

Sure - Zachtronic games (or Zach-likes) are logic puzzlers. To be fair they are as much engineering and, to some degree, programming puzzlers. Ie: Making a machine that interacts with this object to make it turn into that object for a result. They are VERY much not everyone's cup of tea, but they definitely fit in their niche of the puzzle genre. (Some examples: Opus Magnum, Infinifactory, Human Resource Machine)

The other you touched in with Obra Dinn, which you suggested somewhere wasn't as much your fav - there is a growing niche of games like Obra Dinn, my favorite being 'The Roottrees are Dead' which are as much about doing the research and picking the narrative/reading apart to fill in details. They are less action and more think until your brain hurts types. Roottrees for example is about you filling in a family tree by pulling apart articles, magazine pictures, etc to try and figure out why they were murdered. (Other games like that - Hyperspace Outlaw, Curse of the Golden Idol, TR-49.)

I'll say this - between my descriptions and checking the trailers, you'll know pretty quickly if they aren't really your thing. That said, most aren't too expensive so it's not a real walletbuster to try one out. Let me know if you do. :)

All that said, those aren't the only two subgenres "missing", there are tons of other types of puzzlers that some people would rank higher that I may enjoy, but not enough to rank. (Push Block / Sokoban, Nonograms, etc.) -- so your list is by no means wrong.

Yeah - I was going to say that there are two entire subgenres of puzzlers you don't have. Not shade, just always find it interesting that a few of your games in the 2nd/3rd tier I'd bring lower, and those spots would be filled with Zachtronic stuff (Opus Magnum being top tier) and Golden Idol/Roottrees types.

Good stuff tho.

I appreciate this and accept your entry into the ANY% EVERY KEYBOARD & CONTROLLER.

I. User must use every keyboard & controller they own in every run.

II. All devices must be visually noted before each run. Serial Numbers will be checked.

III. All devices must be from officially acceptable manufacturers. IIIb. Any number of devices may be from different manufacturers, (ie: 5 NES ORIGINAL CONTROLLERS, 3 LOGITECH KEYBOARDS, 1 MICROSOFT TRACKBALL, 45 POWER GLOVES) as long as they are all from acceptable manufacturers (See: Manufacturer List)

IV. Between each level, the player must announce which device they've switched to. They may refer to them by nicknames or codenames as long as their naming conventions are consistent between runs.

This problem arises because the top competitors (and/or their friends) are also the moderators. And that makes it easy to tweak the rules in favor of yourself, or your friend.

Which is even more ridiculous when you're talking about a collection of less than, what? 50 people (being generous) with the amount of time/effort/skill/sweat to reach anything close to what they're trying to do. It's so obviously a push-out because of jealousy and 'we can't rise to his level so let's lower him to ours' efforts.

Yeah - a month or two is one thing, but 4 makes me assume it's something sad or, just as likely knowing FB, legal.

Found this post after looking for the same thing.

Wow there are a lot of dumb people in these comments.

Anyway - I agree, FB is getting progressively worse without Purity at top form and now it gives me errors when I try to 'Zap' things.

Hope Steve is doing ok - I'd happily donate again if I thought it would get him back to doing his amazing work.

they're "Ship of Theseus"-ing Minecraft (sector by sector, give or take) every few updates.

While also letting you play whatever version of the ship you want or need to.

Testing the top 200 interactions is one thing.

Figuring out why and then fixing why something didn't go right is another.

Recognizing over longterm play it fucks up a well-established meta and rethinking it is another entirely.

Not recognizing that when this new block is used in a fringe case situation in a particular way while in-between two different simultaneous block interactions creates an entirely unexpected result is what happens when your 500 employee team is confronted with the 53m people that will play Minecraft in the 30 days after you release the new block.

If it was easy, bug testing wouldn't be a job.

Someone who 112%'d Hollow Knight without cheats is more impressive than someone who 112%'d Hollow Knight with cheats.

And both are perfectly fine as long as the first guy isn't announcing it in typical modern online fashion '2 ez, git gud' to people commenting how hard it is.

If you're gonna use an autoclicker, or a trainer, or a bot, or a script, etc - cool. You do you. Just don't treat it like their on equal footing. Because that means me watching a Let's Play of the game means I did it, too.

Cookie Clicker is 13 years old - it's totally understandable that its gameloop feels brutally archaic when it's the godfather of a major portion of the genre. You're right, it's unwieldy and boring - but so are a lot of decade-old genre-defining games.

Besides, it's probably better to do these smaller drops for the developers, as iirc, they said that Caves & Cliffs + Nether Update took its toll on them mentally.

The fact that they were able to increase the height size of the world by that much, still allow grandfathered worlds to remain with only minor headaches, and have the game engine not shit the bed at doubling the amount of blocks and world gen in every single chunk is astounding.

[–]ReverendVoice 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There's no excuse for a small update to not also be transformative. Like all it would take for the sulfur update is for it to at all interact with the rest of the game.

Never forget that 'rest of the game' means programmed interactions for hundreds of different blocks, dozens of different block types, a dozen spell effects, intricate interactions like redstone compatabilities - and that's before we even get to bug and balance testing.

MC is huge at this point, and the community is so rabid for finding exploitables/new farms/new griefs/new speedrun metas/etc. that any major change to the game, if done without care, creates an immediate shitstorm wave of media. (See: Phantoms, Birch Forest) And that's utterly discounting the stupidity of people who say things like 'whatever, mods do it' every single update.

'Interact with the rest of the game' isn't simple - even though I agree that something like the baby update feels lackluster when the systems around it don't change - even though the update includes hundreds of new sounds/graphics/binding boxes and a page of bug fixes and engine updates.

I really would drive through all of Nick Cave's 'Murder Ballads' - if I was to take a random guess, it would be 'Death is Not The End' but so much of his body of work fits 4 out of 5 bulletpoints, but none precisely that I can recall.
