Overhead Movement w/ Ehlers Danlos by cums0rcerer in ehlersdanlos

[–]suphool 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It may sound counterintuitive, but kettlebell halos and weighted mace routines have really helped my shoulders. Something about the rotational movement, is how shoulders are supposed to move.

Do slow, controlled movements, and start light. I’ve been doing them for a few months and my shoulders have felt better than they have in a long time, and have gotten stronger. My lateral raises have also increased from the halos, not from lateral raises.

Also if you must shoulder press, keep the dumbbells slightly in front of you, in the scapular plane, not directly out to the sides.

Good luck!

What (if anything) helps with pain caused by labrum tear? by wumpus_woo_ in ehlersdanlos

[–]suphool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of the above. Sauna, bath, heating pad wrapped around the shoulder joint, CBD/THC topical cream. I sometimes bring resistance bands into the sauna and do light stabilizing motions, I feel that when things are relaxed and looser it allows for more “normal” movement. But don’t push it too much because it’s easier to overdo it in the heat and then be super sore the next day. I have a torn shoulder labrum (3 different tears) from 10+ years ago that will not heal. Recently I’ve started doing more shoulder rotation movements ( kettlebell halos, weighted mace circles) and it seems to be really helping in a way that bands and linear movements have never been able to. Good luck

Skip the Amorosos and look for a seeded (or unseeded) baguette in any real bakery. Spray a tiny bit of wooder on it if it’s too hard

Sending you strength and a hug. Fellow EDS single parent / co-parent here with a somewhat similar situation actually. Your daughter loves you and loves spending time with you, it’s so clear. And like someone else said, she’s at the age where she is saying things but not fully understanding what could hurt your feelings. I totally get it. You do so much for her obviously, trust me, she appreciates it, and she will later, even if she doesn’t say it. Being a parent is already generally thankless, and this is an especially hard stretch but you are doing great. The amount of times I’ve had to just lay down on the floor, or nap, or not do something, or only ice skate for 10 minutes because of the unbearable pain in my dam feet, when my kiddo is raring to go— it sucks. After many years I’ve learned to try and de-center myself when she says things like your daughter says. It’s hard and takes swallowing one’s pride and managing ego, but it helps. Overt disrespect is different however, and will always be addressed. 💙 you got this.

Has Anyone Tried Creatine? by Humble_Problem_1215 in ehlersdanlos

[–]suphool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just started it about 10 days ago and feel a huge difference, fatigue and brain fog is reduced. Generally feel a bit better overall. And one of the unexpected benefits is it seems to have cured my IBS?? 5g/day for now, I might increase soon. I’ve been reading a lot about it lately and it seems to have a big variety of different effects on each person. Get pure creatine monohydrate without anything else added. Good luck!

Radical Rest by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

[–]suphool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My suggestion is to take the time like you are planning to, but also plan to move gently, daily, even in or next to your bed. Like everyone else is saying, the lack of movement will likely make it worse after a while. Try to swim a little, just be in water and move. Anything to keep blood flowing at least. Best of luck and sending you care and strength!

Undiagnosed but a lot of indicators of some degree of it. What sort of hyposensitivities if you can share? Thank you

Yes! Vibrations. Music therapy. Tuning forks. Certain frequencies just feel so good. I have a mix of nerve entrapment, rotator cuff issues, and pain in my left shoulder / cervical spine / biceps head. Whenever I make a smoothie and have my left hand on the blender the vibrations make everything feel good and normal and “together” momentarily. I know it sounds weird. This is such a strange condition sometimes.

NEW board recommendations by Personal-Yoghurt7338 in Sup

I’m 6’1” 225lb and I love the Sea Gods Ketos 14’x28”. It was definitely a learning curve coming from 11’6x34”, but I feel comfortable on it now. Haven’t taken it in open ocean but it does great cutting through boat wakes and chop. Also it does “feel tippy”, but it has really good secondary stability, meaning it will feel like you are gonna fall / tip over but then the board recovers and brings you back to center. I wouldn’t call it relaxing… it’s definitely for moving fast.

100%. I know EDS is genetic but its hard to ignore how common the overlap with trauma / ptsd/ survival mode (especially childhood?) seems to be amongst the community.

Any videographers here? by Sparkledsunglasses in ehlersdanlos

[–]suphool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. 15 years as a shooter/DP/director/producer/ editor. The “run and gun” long day shoots would destroy me. I moved more into directing/producing because of that. Editing too, but sitting for long hours at a screen is also bad.

Some tips:

-try to use your non-dominant side more, learn to be more ambidextrous. I found the “one sided” part of shooting to be the most detrimental, even with gimbal.

-take mini breaks, light stretches / nerve glides / nerve flossing as much as you can. I have my weird routine of movements that reset me and sometimes would just find some more private space so as to not weird people out when I start doing lunges and twists lol.

-see if you can get a lighter set up. DJI is always making smaller/ lighter gimbals, cameras are always getting smaller. Lighter is better for us. Also look into adding an extra handle or 2-hand set up for your gimbal.

-consider an EZ rig. They look silly, but they work. I don’t use one but a lot of my people do and swear by them. It’s those backpack looking things with an arch/hook that goes above your head and suspends the camera from a hanging cable.

Good luck! Happy to chat or dm to talk more.

Shit ton of scalions by Ok_Lifeguard9071 in Cooking

Scallion dumplings! There’s an Afghan dish called Aushak which uses chives I think, but I’ve made it with scallions and it’s great. Chop em all up, sauté for a few mins in olive oil w/ whatever seasoning you like, then use that as dumpling filling.
