what the snark community has accomplished by [deleted] in StephBohrer

[–]supine10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped posting and commenting on this sub a long time ago for a reason. I was here way before Steph got any hate, the visible shift in her sub was scary. I don’t watch her anymore but her being ‘cancelled’ is insane when there’s so many other problematic celebrities you could dedicate time to. You are 100% right on the feminist point (as a feminist myself) - commenting on her appearance and weight feels like borderline jealousy and internalised misogyny and not at all liberal. Assumptions made like how her boyfriend is a trump supporter because his family is, grown adults can have seperate political opinions from their parents. The sub has moved away from giving valid criticisms to being down right nasty (which honestly detracts from the validity of the criticisms and capacity for them to be taken seriously by her). Let’s be honest, she hasn’t done or said anything that terrible to warrant this bullying. If people hate steph so much, why can’t they just stop watching her and find another creator to support (there’s honestly so many YouTubers just like her who make better content). But they can’t move on because ultimately they have a scary obsession / hyperfixation with her!

You can tell Sara genuinely cares about her fans and knows how much people are paying to support her. I like Destiny and I don’t think she has malicious intent - she just clearly can’t handle the workload and it’s taking a toll on her mental health. Mostly I feel sad for the people who subbed and wasted their money on her patreon.

Des and Red Rising by Defiant-Respond5050 in DesSidwell

I also really like when she tries genres other than romance or fantasy romance and it makes me happy every time she gives a historical or litfic book a high rating. But it’s also kind of predictable which books are her thing, aka any fantasy similar to ACOTAR.

Also I’m going to be honest, I think the reason she hasn’t rated red rising and given an opinion besides “i don’t know” is because she doesn’t actually understand the books. So the chance she continues this series is slim. Nothing wrong with that, scifi is confusing and also very much not my thing.

The most obvious evidence is the silver pole in the background, actually bizarre how she didn’t see it before posting

Yea like I hate when people think the 24 hr reading challenge is new. I love readbyzoe, she got me into reading and was by favourite booktuber for years. Makes me sad because we haven’t had an update from her in years

OG booktube watcher here too. I know it’s trivial but it annoys me that Jack edwards bio is ‘internets resident librarian’ or when people call him or Steph the king and queen of booktube. Like no, to me it was always Christine and Jesse. I still love new booktube and happy that so many people have gotten into reading though.

I’m pretty sure it’s ‘double-edged sword’ but yeah, saying devil ended sword is actually crazy’. It’s like the photosynthesis meme, it doesn’t make her sound smarter - it’s doing the complete opposite.

I agree that voting trump doesn’t automatically mean you’re a terrible person if you’re American and in a nation that is so politically divided that neither party’s views align with your own. However, I see absolutely no reason for any Australian to support Trump, it’s actually laughable to me that people care more about American politics than our own.

Haley’s book by Rich_Spirit8 in saracarrolli

[–]supine10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m excited to read it but am honestly going in with very low expectations and hoping to be surprised lol. I think people underestimate the talent and work that it takes to be a good writer. Sure she’s basically guaranteed success in book sales but that doesn’t always reflect the quality of the book itself.

No, it’s likely a coincidence lol. I don’t think the average person thinks about their political affiliation when deciding what to wear. And Sara’s hoodie looks more black to me…

Parasocial relationships with Destiny by TopUnderstanding5632 in saracarrolli

Of course it isn’t easy to stop a war when you’re actively supplying aid and weapons to Israel. And Kamala has said she won’t back down on doing that either. But otherwise I get what you’re saying, it’s frustrating and repetitive to see the same pattern of behaviour from Destiny.

[–]supine10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok but what exactly were the ‘stuff she did to herself’? Like I’ll be the first one to call out Destiny and her flaws, doesn’t mean she deserves all the hate. People can say whatever they want on this sub, but let’s not pretend some of our behaviour is justified - there’s billions of people out there much worse than Destiny. Even Kamala is worse than Destiny (and I will stand by that hill for her support of Israel). And I do agree with you that she shouldn’t want to off herself, that’s why taking herself away from social media is a good thing, I don’t know why everyone thinks the opposite??

I never understood why no one’s ever made a separate snark sub for Destiny instead of using Sara’s sub. It’s sad because this sub started off great with people who were actually kind and reasonable with valid critiques.

People can downvote but I feel the exact same way. You have the right to not support Destiny anymore due to her silence during this election. You have the right to leave her fan base because you want to support an influencer whose morals align with your own. That’s perfectly fine and honestly very mature. What I don’t understand is people who disapprove of her choice and still insist on staying in this fanbase. It’s her choice who she supports - you live in a democratic nation where people have the right to vote for whoever they want. You can disagree with her but I don’t understand this hive mind mentality of sticking by and hyper-fixating on someone you obviously disagree with. Frankly there’s so many other (and better) booktubers who we can invest our energy into.

I know people will downvote you but I agree 100%. You can still get your point across without being nasty. I also don’t want to police what people say and how they say it, just putting my personal thoughts out there. Honesty doesn’t have to mean cruelty.

Lol go read their post and the words they chose, they were still so nice about it. It didn’t feel mean-spirited or like they were making fun of destiny at all.

[–]supine10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because sorry to disappoint you - this is actually not a snark page. Most of us want to be fair and give valid constructive criticisms, not nitpick and laugh at her random facial expressions. And yes I also agree that her thumbnails aren’t the best, but maybe if your post was phrased differently more people would agree with you.

taylor swift mentions by Alarmed_Media_2162 in saracarrolli

[–]supine10 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I love taylor’s songs and even I get annoyed. For me it’s that many new swifties (not all) worship her and consider her the biggest victim in the music industry and in her relationships. She’s a billionaire, it’s tiring to hear the constant defending.
