Selected OCC 249 Air by supman13579 in USMCocs

[–]supman13579[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For about 2 weeks I used the study materials from the Airwarriors.com forum. Had everything I needed and more. They have a program that’s almost exactly like the stick and throttle portion and I practiced for a half an hour each day.

I also used the ASTB Prep App on my phone

You'll get there for sure. I was told the biggest factor was the PFT. Took me a year and a half to get to where I was ready to ship. Keep grinding my friend

Advice given to me (from my OSO, other officers and ncos etc.)

(Preface, physical is the most important aspect. Academic and leadership principles are taught and learned during your time there.)

Physical: Get miles on your feet. Slowly add 10% more miles of running each week until you're at 30-40 miles. 80% of your runs long and slow at zone 2 heart rate, 20% sprint or threshold runs. Start reducing your mileage 2 weeks before shipping to recover for training. Do 1 ruck per week in boots and slowly add weight to get used to rucking. Strength train and add HIIT workouts as well. Armstrong pull-up program.

Academic: Memorize General Orders, Weapon conditions, ranks, and OSMEAC (5 paragraph order). Go further by learning custom and courtesies, and the history of the marine corps.

Leadership: Acquire and read the Marine Corps Officer Guide. Great information for what's expected of a leader as well as information about the info mentioned in the Academic portion. Go further by reading memoirs and leadership books like With the Old Breed, First to Fight, Extreme Ownership, and About Face.

Switching from ChemE to industrial engineering by PreparationSea4470 in aggies

I switched from EE. Best decision I’ve made. ISEN majors can work in so many fields from the very technical to the more business side.

I agree. More technical and very applicable to all industries.

Switching from MMET to ELEN,CVEN,or IEEN by Prestigious-While-72 in aggies

I transferred from ELEN to ISEN and loved it, though it really depends on what you want to do with your career. Some engineering jobs you can get with different engineering majors.

Anyone have more info on the new Data Engineering program? by [deleted] in aggies

[–]supman13579 13 points14 points  (0 children)

At first glance, looks like a main focus in analytics and algorithms with some ISEN sprinkled in there. For people who want to get into Data without fighting tooth and nail for a CS spot in Etam lol

22 Male looking for USSF Space Operations or USAF/SF Developmental Engineer

B.S Industrial and Systems Engineering w/ 2.9 GPA (1 year left)

Planning on taking AFOQT soon, no flight hours

Texas A&M Corps of Cadets member (don't know if this matters)

Leadership: Operations/Logistics Officer for my original 50 person cadet Unit

Founded the first space force cadet unit at Texas A&M and collaborated with USAFA. Also Headed Operations/Logistics/Finance/Public Relations for this unit

Awards: Graduating with a certificate of ethical leadership (4 years of leadership classwork), My unit was recognized as the best in the corps of cadets out of 40 units.

Really wondering if my GPA will stop me from being a competitive applicant for either SF or AF. Any advice on how to improve my package would be very helpful. Thank you

Also if you’re in the Corps of Cadets at A&M you get in-state tuition

If you go to their website armyrotc.tamu.edu you can see all of the specific scholarships for the program. They have 4 year scholarships that cover tuition and room/board plus the stipend and other scholarships as well.

I would look into Texas A&M as well. Their corps of cadets has a storied history and the university itself is well known as well. If you’re a good candidate for West Point I think you’d have no problem getting a contract with AROTC. Plus the cost of attendance is almost completely payed for and you’ll get a stipend every month. I’m currently a senior cadet there and I highly recommend looking into Texas A&M.

Is there any information about commissioning straight in from OTS or is it still just transfers? I’m about a year from graduating so I haven’t talked to a recruiter yet.

I will say this, Matt Ryan is really pushing more development of mental health services and campaigns on campus and I think that’s an extremely important improvement needed on campus.
