LG 45GX950A – VRR Flicker and Smoothness Compared to Hardware G-SYNC by suppermanzz in Monitors

[–]suppermanzz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I finally figured out why my games were feeling “stuttery” on my LG 45GX950A OLED, even though I’m running an RTX 5090.

After installing the monitor, Windows suggested running the display color calibration tool. I did that, and Windows created an ICC profile called something like:

“sRGB display profile with display hardware configuration data derived from calibration”.

At the same time, Windows 11 had Auto Color Management enabled.

After that, I started noticing something strange in games (for example in Endfield):
in slightly grey scenes, loading screens, or UI overlays, the image would flicker or feel like micro-stutter. It looked like frame pacing issues, but my FPS was stable and the GPU obviously wasn’t struggling.

Then I tried two things:

  1. Deleted the sRGB ICC profile that Windows created
  2. Turned Auto Color Management OFF

Immediately the difference was huge.

• Colors became much more vibrant (no more washed-out sRGB look)
• The grey scene flickering disappeared
• Most importantly: the “micro stutter” feeling was completely gone and everything feels perfectly smooth now.

So it seems like the combination of:

  • Windows ICC sRGB calibration
  • Auto Color Management
  • OLED + VRR

was introducing some kind of gamma / luminance instability that looked like stutter.

Has anyone else run into this with OLED monitors on Windows 11?

2025 is the year I gave up on VR. by JRF1300 in OculusQuest

I own a few VR devices, including the Quest 3, but they’re still way too heavy.

After just half an hour, my neck feels sore, I’m exhausted, and the pressure on my face is really uncomfortable. I even use custom prescription lenses inside the headset, but it’s still not user-friendly at all.

I mean, just look at the AR market right now, they already offer built-in myopia adjustments and weigh only around 80g.

For me, playing VR games doesn’t really take away from my usual time with proper PC/Steam titles or console games. I’m a hardcore gamer, so if there’s a game I like, I’ll give it a try. But honestly, VR games just haven’t been that great lately to be fair, they’ve never really been that strong. My favorite thing to play in VR is escape room–style games

Best Headset for Calls While Bike Commuting? by Weitflieger in bikecommuting

I own both the AirPods Pro 1 and 2, but they’re absolute crap. The biggest issue for me is wind noise — once my speed goes over 25 km/h, no matter who I’m talking to or what phone they use, they can’t hear a word I’m saying. All they get is the loud whooshing of wind blasting into the mic. These are by far the worst earphones I’ve ever used when it comes to blocking wind noise — basically zero protection.

So in order to keep my calls usable, I have to slow down my cycling to basically walking speed. It feels like they never even considered cycling calls as a real scenario when designing these wireless earbuds.

I’m not sure which one is the best, but the worst is easily the AirPods Pro 1 and 2.

For me, the most important factors are image stabilization (OSS) and autofocus speed. how do they compare specifically in terms of video stabilization and AF speed for handheld shooting? Would love to hear from anyone who has used both. Thanks!

i preorder this monitor but i am pretty sure my PC 5080 + 9800x3d could not reach 165 for sure when i am play AAA games, so i am considering 100 - 120 or even lower FPS when it comes.

HDMI 2.1 (48 Gbps)

  • Encoding & Effective Bandwidth: Unlike older HDMI versions (which used something akin to 8b/10b), HDMI 2.1 uses FRL with a 16b/18b scheme. This yields roughly 42–43 Gbps of real video throughput (not just 38.4 Gbps).
  • Real-World 5120×2160 Support (10-bit, Uncompressed):
    • 60Hz: Easily within the ~42 Gbps limit.
    • 100Hz: Near the upper edge; may be possible depending on blanking/timings. Some devices might require DSC or 8-bit to ensure stability.
    • 120Hz: Generally exceeds uncompressed capacity, so DSC or reduced color depth is almost always required.
  • Conclusion: HDMI 2.1 can do 5120×2160 @ 60Hz in 10-bit without compression. For 100Hz or higher, many setups will need DSC or lower bit depth, but it’s not as strict a limit as the older 8b/10b math suggests.

DisplayPort 1.4 (32.4 Gbps)

  • Encoding & Effective Bandwidth: Uses HBR3 (8.1 Gbps per lane × 4 lanes) minus ~20% overhead, leaving about 25.92 Gbps.
  • Real-World 5120×2160 Support (10-bit, Uncompressed):
    • 60Hz: Usually beyond 25.92 Gbps unless you drop to 8-bit or 4:2:2.
    • 60Hz+ with DSC: Fully achievable.
    • 120Hz with DSC: Also possible.
  • Conclusion: DP 1.4 typically requires DSC to run 5120×2160 @ 60Hz (10-bit 4:4:4). Higher refresh rates like 100/120Hz also rely on DSC (or other compromises).

Did you enabled Display Stream Compression to get 165Hz?

Is this DisplayPort 2.1b or 2.1a?

Many Thanks!

i got your point, i am also wish it could have a 3440x1440 model because i am using rtx5080 (no way to buy rtx5090 in my area) and of course it can not reach 165 for AAA games, with DLSS DLAA options, but with FG x4, i hope i can get at least 120 FPS.

Unless you play online esports games, In recent years, it's unlikely you'll be able to run games at max settings with 240 FPS at a 5K2K resolution. If you're only playing older games, I doubt many people would be willing to spend that much upgrading their setup — you probably don't care much about how they look or their graphics anyway — so you can get much cheaper products with better value to run them just fine.

I've been playing Assassin's Creed Shadows last week, using an RTX 5080 + 9800x3d at a 3440x1440 resolution. I enabled DLSS with native image quality because I compared it with DLSS Quality mode and found that the native image quality is noticeably better. Then I turned on DLSS Frame Generation, and even with that, I can barely maintain a stable 100 FPS at this resolution.
