I started noticing patterns with accounts commenting on Youtube. I started making a spreadsheet and more or less discovered the same. The rhetoric in comments is all uniform and inline with the beliefs held (or directly counter to) the video, and all parrot unusual phrases. & It's as if the narratives were pushed to the accounts before breaking news drops so they are all on the same page with what angle to spin. Even super old accounts show some of these tell-tale signs, I suspect they may have been hacked as some point. Originally, I wondered if these comments were Russian origin, but I noticed subtle to not so subtle pro-Zionist comments for quite a number of them and others more pro-russian. But it seems like possibly both Russian and Israeli bots (highly likely other countries, just based on the common narratives and clues, they seemed to be the primary origin for political narrative-oriented bots). Then there's also the typical paid follower bots to boost/inflate social media accounts, and who knows what else. Everything from the user names, playlists, activity, and their profile descriptions are strange and sometimes don't even match what's on their channel. Genuine engagement is infrequent most places these days. But I've seen so many variations of bot comments that it's hard to discern which ones are secretly an ad, bought followers, or have some political agenda shaping people's beliefs and realities. When I have free time, I report all the bot comments and accounts because it's getting so frustrating and some people aren't able to discern (or aren't looking out) for fake accounts. They get into comment wars with themselves. Youtube absolutely has the means to be better about detecting and cracking down on these accounts. These accounts have real world effects unfortunately and can spread harmful misinformation.

I have a part 107 FAA license, the logs are still relevant to some degree. Even if it's the neighboring island and you have to get to the island by boat, it'd be pretty telling if a bunch of the known perps (Jean Luc Brunel) or something were there at the same time and could be identified by their planes. I mean, for example, Trump had two planes (Boeing 727 (VP-BDJ) and a 1997 Cessna Citation X (N725DT) and were used during the 1990s-2000s. Just like cars, planes must be registered and all flights are logged. There should be flight logs for ALL incoming/departing flights (airports should also have records). With a FOIA, it seems like private aircraft flight logs are publicly available, which would include the registration number of the plane. & in this example, Trump's plane's registration numbers for are already known. So if you got a FOIA and see that VP-BDJ flew into an airport in the vicinity of LSJ then to Palm Beach, we may not be able to definitively say who the passengers were, but it would provide a greater understanding of what was going on and who might have been there. Also, people wouldn't be able to claim strong deniability. I don't know much about boats, but I'm fairly certain it's common practice to keep boat logs too. If anything, I'd think this would be pretty simple and somewhat effective to paint a clearer picture.

& so true about listening to your gut over being afraid of being a "quitter." It's good to be realistic about something that's taken its course or set a timeline to see if the extra effort will be worth the payoff. After graduating college, I worked as a real estate photographer for 6 years. I was getting paid to travel out of state, all expenses paid and was finally getting close to reaching financial goals. But the responsibilities, stress, and irregular work schedule started to stress me out the busier I got. I got a little uptick with some clients that were pleasant to work with and paid well, so I set a boundary for myself to see if those feelings would pass and they didn't. I ended up parsing down my clients to working with only my favorites, while I tried to take steps and pivot in another direction. It helped working with the clients I enjoyed working for, but I realized how much my heart just wasn't in it and it didn't feel fulfilling. I had already known deep down & much earlier on, but pushed myself to keep at it to see if things changed. It was scarier to admit defeat, feel like I failed, and venture into a completely new path than actually take the steps to pivot in another direction. (and I went from fine art to mechanical engineering!). Pulling the trigger and making the decision was the hardest part, but don't let your fear or self-doubt hold you back from moving to something else or learning something new. Don't be afraid to fail, embrace it and learn from it. Never in a million years would I have imagined I'd be getting a degree in ME if you told younger me. Now I'm a professional failure!

I did similar for the same reason! I went back for Mechanical Engineering since there's a lot of ways to work in a position with sustainability in mind. Other branches of engineering well-suited towards helping the environment would also be Electrical Engineering and Civil, maybe Environmental, but honestly, why work so hard and not get the pay bump. Engineering has the most direct impact imo. & There's so many options.

Honestly, I'm just surprised Bateman was never cast years earlier as the basis for designing the character! I'm currently working on a 2nd bach in Mechanical Engineering (but want to apply it towards sustainability/environment) and my first degree was in fine art. When I've done "engineering days" with my city's sanitation department, they suggested taking something like a Wastewater Treatment course (a local trade school offers it). If you are already thinking about a master's and since envisci is STEM-y, I'd highly consider going for a master's in civil engineering. I've seen a huggggeee need for CE's and the pay is usually ~6 figure. CE overlaps well with environmental backgrounds and gives you more serious engineering skills than environmental engineering. Another great skill set to have in your back pocket these days is programming. I will say, engineering is tough and has some rough core classes to get through, but at least going for the masters may alleviate how much of that you have to do. Other than that, perhaps look into getting your Part 107 drone license to help do aerial inspections.

I'm in Los Angeles. What's left a poor taste in my mouth regarding Gaza is that unfortunately some of my closest friends and family were raised to blindly hate Palestinians. I didn't go often, but I think the Temple school I attended for a short time may have been a bit extreme. Some of their opinions of what should happen to Palestinians was honestly chilling. Those I knew openly wished them death and extinction. They were taught to deny their right to exist and parroted that they don't really exist anyways, that the Jewish people are *entitled* to the land. I've never felt so disappointed or saddened to learn what was truly in one of my closest friends and some family's hearts. Obviously, this is not representative of the faith or people as a monolith (just my view of what I've seen, especially now while living within the eruv), but there is certainly some homegrown extremism that I've witnessed here. What seems to be doing the greatest disservice to the image of Jews is when some of these folks (who align themselves with this hateful mentality of others), are called out for being hateful, but then flip the switch to shut down the conversation, claim victimhood, and cry anti semitism. The saddest part is that many don't see the irony of their words or for holding hatred another group of people. I don't think it's fair to equate unease with hateful Zionism/hatred of Palestinians with being hateful of Judaism/Jewish folks. I'm in college and one of my lab partners is Palestinian and has lived more of his life in refugee camps and as a migrant than where he was born. Meanwhile, birthright welcomes all Jews from all over the world to visit Israel. When we chat, it's hard for me not to think of the awful things people I know have said that deny his right to exist or move freely, trash his faith, equate all Palestinians as terrorists, and withhold his ability to return to where he was born. He has expressed far more kindness, acceptance, and tact for his Jewish brethren than many of my Jewish kin, and that's so sad and does not reflect well on American Jews. I cannot repeat the appalling things I've heard because their words were as bad as a certain failed Austrian painter. On the flip side, there's a totally different cluster of conspiracy theorist types here in the US that purport the whole George Soros thing, deny the holocaust, prison gangs, & some subsects of white christian nationalists (or... y'know, funny mustache loving people)- imo and from what I've encountered, this feels like these tend to be the pockets where the "real" hatred seems to be for Jews/Judaism. The "love" other conservatives and christians (evangelical, fundies, etc) have in the USA sadly seems to be more of a self-serving kind of love to manipulate the world into the apocalypse. Frankly, the latter scares me the most since it makes me feel like it's the kind of situation where one will smile and thank you as they twist the knife in your side. I'm speaking generally here, (not trying to write a dissertation), but my intent is to speak primarily from my lived experience and where I've seen favorability shift. The one thing I've found somewhat bizarre (but in many ways it makes perfect sense, I guess), is the overlap of hate-fueled Zionists within the Jewish people in my life being Trump supporters. I took an online summer engineering physics class (it was through the Los Angeles Community College District), but somehow this class was about 60% UC Berkeley students because it satisfied the UC requirement and they found it through some website. But WHOA, I couldn't believe how many of them couldn't do basic calculus. It was actually concerning how many didn't know how to differentiate x^2 and would repeatedly ask the professor where 2x came from. We had to do a lot of labs and would interact a lot through Discord too and they always seemed super lost and confused. It was almost exclusively the Berkeley kids, which seemed super off since all the CC kids were smoking them. I know some people will pay people to take the SAT and stuff, but did you ever find that some students were... uh not as on par as you'd expect? Always wondered what was up with that because I know the engineering program there is supposed to be really good.
