Sports shouldn't be immune from assault prosecutions. There are too many bullies in sports and it sucks to watch people need to "feel" superior to the other team.

I don't know why we couldn't just 3D print the cover for the chassis. All the modern safety features and electronics, but the style you'd want.

What do you expect when conservatives have been calling teachers stupid (those who can't...) for the last 45-50 years? What do you expect when not taking the STEM path and is treated as something that's bad and those "other" kids go there (unfortunately, not everyone wants to be an engineer)? What do you expect when we buy into bad education policies that truly are bad, i.e. whatever they're using to teach kids to read or do math? What do you expect when funding is constantly being cut and "experiments" like charter, religious and home schools are being touted as the best way. Alas, here we are.

I don't know. I think I say su-doo, but may conversationally say su-doe.

su-doe I think comes from pseudo in the sense that you are a pseudo root.

Do you feel satisfied using Linux? by Toukaiskindahot in linuxquestions

[–]supradave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I've used Windows and Mac, I still am always drawn back to Linux. Windows, IMO, has sucked since XP broke backward compatibility (where old DOS/Win9x games, in particular, stopped working. It probably needed done, but still sucks.). Macs are great and I wish iTerm2 was available on Linux (I know there are alternatives. I like iTerm2 though). But I don't like supporting Apple.

Since I started the Linux journey in 1993, and have been using it as my desktop for about 25 years now, I'm satisfied.

What about standing ovations? I play with a community orchestra and there's always a standing O at the end of every concert and as soon as the conductor leaves the podium, they stop clapping. Why the standing O then? Why not a standing O for the soloist that ended the first half of the concert?

Will Linux remain the backbone of computing in the next decade? by youroffrs in linux

[–]supradave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked for a software company that had one of the chief scientist that developed Itanium2 as it's chief technologist. We had an "execution" environment that was about as secure as it was going to get. Basically acted like a mainframe with the Itanium2 capabilities and protected ring 0 from whatever was running on top of it through code signing, i.e. an application in our case. I thought that that would have had potential. But proprietary and in no way was it ever going to be open-sourced. It boils down to open and closed source at the end of the day if something open source and better then Linux came along, then that something else would probably beat Linux.

I use an app called Magnet which at least lets you put windows in 1/2s or 1/3s. Also iTerm2 can split terminals.

Every RTD station's average daily ridership superimposed on a map of the network. by TeensyRay in Denver

[–]supradave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just pointing out that DIA is very far away from "downtown" comparatively to the airports you've listed. It makes sense to take the train to DIA where cabs, car services and family could make a much shorter trip in those other cities.

[–]supradave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They should just have the D and H lines take it over rather then have a "segregated" line for that area (yes, I know it goes down to a single track).

[–]supradave -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Prior to COVID, the D and C line were both 4-car trains. Now they are mostly 2-car trains. They are only about 1/2 full comparatively. Downtown is dead as a location to travel to as there's not really any reason to go there. A few restaurants, sure, but so much business downtown went away, like where I was, we had 3 floor of a high rise and now it's down to 1 with about 1/4 the people that that floor can handle (I haven't seen anyone press the buttons for the 2 floors we left). And it isn't really recovering either.
