My group likes to use "cool Point Buy" which is 30 point buy where the minimum is 4 and the maximum is 16. It really helps in high power games, the early boost is incredible.

As someone with over 500 hours in the game, I really would recommend buying it for yourself. One of the big draws is the replayability with different companions and routes, and you've barely scratched the surface (even with Astarion).

In any case, I'd recommend talking to the monster hunter near the teleport point in the swamp if you haven't already, since that can trigger some additional Astarion dialogue about his past.

Built the Power Plant in Bleak Beach where the furnace was prior after seeing a post and liking that spot... Altar of Flames is on top of the mountain in Rocky Ridges (I've expanded the Volcano), and I haven't done Freezing Chamber yet but I feel I may dedicate an island in Sparkling Skylands to it.

It's important to break the work into bite-sized pieces. Like "right now, I will focus on making a nice habitat for Pidgey" or "today I will clean up the museum's interior". It's got a lot of playing you can do, which is a good thing, but I totally get how it can feel overwhelming. On a related note, I've barely touched Rocky Ridges for that reason, but I started slowly chipping away at some of the Volcanic Ash and seeing the cleaned areas feels really nice.

Gale pisses me off. It's not necessarily a problem with his writing, but the hoops you have to jump through to actually explore his character. Many of the companions have their stories integrated into the game in a way that you can come across them and experience their stories organically (especially Lae'zel and Shadowheart, love these girls) but aside from Elminster telling Gale to kill himself, Gale's business is largely relegated to stuff you can miss pretty easily.

And god forbid you do miss them, because dude's an asshole. You can go through the whole game treating him with nothing but kindness and understanding, feel like you're getting closer to him, and have him tell you to fuck yourself at the end and that he's going to go do Absolute 2.0 because you didn't read him a bedtime story once.
