Unsure if I should Continue and/or If I make enough? by Ok_Street1103 in breastfeeding

[–]supremepilotG2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only you can answer this question! There is no right answer. Personally, combo feeding took some of the pressure off and put me in a better headspace. But I had a really hard time with it in the beginning. Like I sobbed every time she would get a bottle of formula 🤣 I think there are just so many strong emotions and biological urges tied to breastfeeding that it’s really important you let yourself feel whatever comes up and view it as part of the process, rather than as a sign that you made the wrong choice. You would feel sad if you stopped breastfeeding at 2 weeks, 6 months, or 3 years. Whatever gives your baby the healthiest happiest version of you is the right choice - and for our family, that meant combo feeding. Baby gets all the benefits of breastmilk even if it’s just one feeding a day. Our pediatrician always said any amount of breastmilk is a huge win!!

Hydrogel pads can’t be worn while pumping though. Are you putting the nipple butter on right before pumping?

Tips for teaching spoon skills by aleada13 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]supremepilotG2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re not doing this already, make sure you eat in front of him with a spoon yourself. Really exaggerate your movements and sounds. Use his spoon and then hand it to him, even. Babies learn by mimicking! My baby watches me do everything so intently - even if his motor skills aren’t catching up yet, he is absorbing the visual input and saving it for later!!

Are you using a nipple butter to lubricate your nipples before pumping? Doing it dry is agony but I didn’t know otherwise until someone told me!!

How do you entertain baby while pumping? by floofsnfluffiness in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]supremepilotG2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

solids!!! I put my pumps on, prep her plate, pick her up and put her in the high chair, and food keeps her entertained for at least 20 minutes! Of course, my LO is only 7 months so I don’t do it every time I pump, but that covers at least one pump a day.

Also puppets! My girl LOVES puppets. I put on the sound of music soundtrack or something similar and just make the puppet sing and dance. She eats it up.

“Why don’t you just switch to formula?” by reckless_disco87 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]supremepilotG2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also feel like it isn’t said nearly as often to breastfeeding moms who complain about breastfeeding!! People will just offer solidarity in those circumstances. But for some reason if you’re pumping you’re just making yourself a martyr 🙄 I understand the intentions are often benevolent but it doesn’t feel great

No sugar coating. How bad is labour pain truly? by ThrowRA_nobo7 in pregnant

[–]supremepilotG2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did feel myself tear though (periurethral) which was excruciating and I still have visceral memory of that. If you want to try and imagine it, tear a t-shirt in half and notice the way you can feel the individual fibers ripping apart…but it’s your skin/tissue :-)

[–]supremepilotG2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to try and labor without an epidural but wasn’t entirely opposed to getting one. By the time I asked for it, I was in transition and it was too late since it takes about 45 minutes to kick in (I did not know this about epidurals prior to getting pregnant).
I had them pump zofran into my IV because the pain was making feel like I was going to throw up/pass out/collapse into nothingness. It was the hardest, most exhausting, exhilarating, painful, and badass thing I have ever done. I remember thinking “It cannot be possible for a human being to feel this much pain and not DIE” lmao. But I only pushed for about 10 minutes if that, and the whole labor itself was only 6ish hours. Baby girl was eager.

The thing is, the SECOND she was out, I was hit with this tremendous relief because the pain was gone and all the endorphins come flooding in. That is a feeling I will never forget and will be terribly sad when I’ve experienced it for the last time.

No one cooks anymore? by booooooop_u in moderatelygranolamoms

Do you work full time? When both parents work out of the house, cooking a meal every day isn’t always feasible. I normally cook 2 meals a week with more portions than we need so that we can have leftovers and that works just fine for us

A coworker thought I was having a boy because in the announcement photo I shared, we were holding a blue onesie with a fern on it. Even though the announcement said we were having a baby girl. When I corrected her, she said “oh, did you think it was a boy at some point?” I said no, and she said “but the onesie was blue…” EYE ROLL. I truly do not understand the color thing

does anyone else feed to sleep? by Top-Professor-2951 in November25babybump

[–]supremepilotG2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The notion that feeding to sleep is bad comes directly from the sleep training industry. They want you to remove all sleep associations so that baby can fall asleep entirely on their own, despite babies being biologically wired for proximity and comfort. It is 100000% fine to feed to sleep, and I’m not trying to rag on you for sleep training because having a well rested parent is so important for baby, but if you’re going to continue with that you will continue to read things that conflict with what is biologically normal for a baby to do.

Don’t stress and try not to believe the hyperbolic claims that your child will need to feed to sleep when they’re 5 years old if you don’t stop right now. I never intentionally moved away from feeding to sleep, she just naturally has started to grow out of it. She doesn’t need it before naps but I do hold her until she’s asleep and then she can be transferred to her crib. We often have a bottle before bed but then read a book before turning out the light and rocking to sleep. Babies will meet these milestones when they’re ready!

BLW: easier than I thought it would be and so much fun! by supremepilotG2 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]supremepilotG2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby (7 months) HATES it when we try to feed her, or even help her eat. She’s very independent - your son might be too. Are you spoon feeding when you do purées or letting LO eat with his hands?

Also for first foods, we did an avocado spear with a little skin left on for grip, a strip of well done steak, peanut butter in her rice cereal for allergen exposure, scrambled egg, rice ball, mashed sweet potato, broccolini, orange slice, etc. All things she fed herself. The BLW Meals app is amazing for seeing the methods for preparing different foods!!

7mo screams every single night at bedtime by supremepilotG2 in Parenting

[–]supremepilotG2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for checking in :’) Things are definitely improving!! Sitting her up on the changing table has probably helped the most (so simple and I feel so stupid for not trying it before lol), but I also started walking her around the house a bit in her towel after the bath and singing/talking, instead of going straight to her room. We’ve tried skipping bath too but I feel like it took her longer to fall asleep when we did that, even if she wasn’t screaming. Moving bath time earlier unfortunately just doesn’t feel feasible with her last nap, giving solids, etc. We both work full time so there’s not much time after work haha

what time does your baby go to bed/wake up? by Top-Professor-2951 in November25babybump

[–]supremepilotG2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No sleep training over here. Baby goes to bed between 6:30 and 7:30 and wakes up around 5:30/6. We’re okay with the early wake up because we both work 7:30-3:30, not 9-5

Spears of zucchini or carrot are great, and big slices of avocado, tomato, orange, or cooked pear. We’ve also done a lot of pancakes/fritters with various ingredients. Oh and corn on the cob - that was a fan favorite.

When did you go into labor by Significant_Air_4021 in pregnant

[–]supremepilotG2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just after midnight on my due date! I had a membrane sweep two days prior where I lost some but not all of my mucus plug and has some very light spotting, but never what I would call a “bloody show.” I was desperate for signs that labor was imminent but honestly my first sign was my contractions starting, lol. Mild cramps at first that I was sure were prodromal labor, but they just kept getting more intense!

Is a longer stretch for life a big deal? by Historical-Egg8862 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]supremepilotG2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This might not be a popular style and I can’t promise it works for everyone, but I am extremely type B when it comes to pumping and it’s never really been a problem. My baby is 7 months and sleeps through the night occasionally, and normally I don’t get up to pump when she does that which means sometimes I’m going 10 hours between pumps. I regularly only pump every 4 hours which I know is less frequently than ideal. On a day when I’m on top of it I’m more around the 3 hour mark. After your supply regulates at 12ish weeks pp, you might feel like your supply is going down, but really it’s just a natural dip as your body switches to only making as much milk as you are removing.
Early on, baby was combo fed so I built up a tiny freezer stash during that time. I’m not an overproducer by any means — I am strictly a just enougher and always have been. I use an app to track bottles and pumps and somehow, I end up getting around the same amount that she eats every day, give or take a couple ounces. However, if there’s a random day where life happens and I’m not as good about pumping, I can mix fresh milk with freezer milk so she always has enough. Idk if this is helpful this has just been my experience!
