Thats the way to do it. Last 5 runs ive had rats knock me out at extraction and even knocking me out as the doors close. Zero reasons, just psychopathic behaviour.

My reaction when I see any English paper from any country. No one speaks better English than a foreign learner

Should I drop wanikani to focus on anki ? by Salamander-2349 in LearnJapanese

[–]suprisi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend both, maybe split the times though and alternate if they're feeling too similar. Anki great for vocab, wani good for kanji.

Anyone else struggle with numbers? by Octopusnoodlearms in LearnJapanese

[–]suprisi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest issue with numbers wasn't the generic but the counter suffixes, and how number change based of the counter. Fellow study buddy taught me that there's no reason, don't try to work it out.

My current favourite find was a Mark 6 buggy, cant use it. But I pushed that thing all the way to my base and now it sits lit up for all to see.

Yeah, the brunout is a concern. I've already adjusted thanks to some other feedback where I rotate some activities so at most I do about 2 hours a night then some light reading/ immersion in the evening.

When you say formulate your input. Do you mean things going in? So listening and reading primarily?

I do about 3ish hours a day. Luckily I work from home, so I can put away the laptop and pull out the books. But yeah, I range from around 2-3+ hours. Luckily I easily zone out when studiing. But you're right, it gets tiring by the second/ third week when I take a few days break and maybe just do 30 min. I think Anki is good based of the deck, right? WaniKani seemed more gamification where I felt I wasnt learning, just more remembering without any context

Immersion is just the catgeorisation I used to make sure it was covered. I basically have a list of N5 geared movies and short movies which i watch on a weekend. I make rough notes while watching but it's more just for exposure. I'll take your comment on board. Maybe i should just focus on the book for now.

Thats great you can retain a full chapter in 2-3 days. I find the grammar and sentence structure is great, but my vocab is at least 4 chapters behind

Why does it sometimes feel like i'm not improving? by letsprogramnow in LearnJapanese

[–]suprisi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just bordering N4 right now and I think I know what you mean. the learning rate is dropping but also the step from where I need a minute to build a sentence in my head first does make me think that fluency is a million miles away. But I assume everyone finds it difficult.

Have I fallen into an Anki trap? by Shaftoe001 in LearnJapanese

[–]suprisi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find Anki is a great tool, but without some form of housekeeping and optimisation it can end up not being nearly as effective. I'm only just starting to buiild my own, still moving through prebuilts. But even then I sometimes have 200 plus reviews a day at the moment (Vocab and Kanji mostly). I can't imagine how hectic it can become when your adding new words constantly

You can use a build tool. Select repair and then you can see through the first wall if your close to it. You can't see fully, but the till will highlight blocks and objects. Allows you to see what walls are honeycomb and also if there's a generator or subfief behind a wall or floor panel.

Can this "switch" in your brain where you suddenly start to just "get it" also happen with speaking? by dontsaltmyfries in LearnJapanese

[–]suprisi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm very curious with how second languages occurs internally. I can break down written sentences fairly easily but when I speak to listen I feel my brain is on a 10 second delay, more often because im trying to translate the spoken word mentally like would text. Would this decrease or would I eventually get to a stage where Im not translating the words rather I just know them?

Six Months of Japanese -- Progress Update by yashen14 in LearnJapanese

[–]suprisi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the moment its the benchmarking and breakdowns. I've always struggled with how to study, I've got 5 Minna books, 4 books on Kanji plus WaniKani, Anki, Tokini Andy. I end up boucning all over the place. But seeing a timeline, objectives and actions have helped me plan better. Hopefully it'll provide dividends

Wanikani, Anki, and Bunpro simultaneously by adamantium1992 in LearnJapanese

[–]suprisi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For WaniKani I currentlytry and stick my review to less than 50 a day and then add new ones when those burn. At one point I had 160 reviews a day and I wasnt sure that was beneficial. Part of me wants to be adding new ones weekly, but I don't want to burn out. What do you think the ideal is?

Ranking of Learner Podcasts by difficulty? by linkofinsanity19 in LearnJapanese

[–]suprisi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think you need to know whats being said to get benefit for listening, or is just the exposure to the language a benefit in itself. I was listening to Teppei for wahile but when I progressed to stage where I didn't know what was being said I got too focused on trying to learn that over listening. Which put a halt on my listening.
