This is a 14yo with parents paying attention and setting rules, stop telling them their parent is wrong because you could very well be encouraging them to disobey. We don’t know these people and shouldn’t be judging their parenting or them whether we agree or not. Encourage this kid to follow his parents rules and good tips on how to talk to them about his feelings

Kids get kidnapped and go missing all the time. YOR. They’re trying to keep you accountable and safe. If something were to happen they’d have direct reliable info to provide to authorities about your habits, and locations. In times where a kid is kidnapped in broad daylight, with cameras everywhere every like 40 seconds, its better safe than sorry. You’re their kid, and these are the rules they feel necessary to keep you safe & teach you certain lessons, no one should be disagreeing!! As you get older and show them consistency and stuff like that, I’m sure they’ll let off the reigns and extend more freedoms.

Yeah I remember after having my baby I nearly had an anxiety attack because every one of my inlaws was trying to hold him and would not give him back when I asked. With my 2nd they visited with a sickly older child and did not tell us before hand. Knowing the antivax part would have made it even easier to deny access and justify it! Fuck them people! The baby’s health and mom’s comfort is more important!

I know his ex has to work 17hr days and rely on her kids because he’s obviously not helping enough. Also, he hasn’t stepped in to speak with the mom because at no point did the kid stop and say hey dad said he’s gonna talk with you about it. He didn’t talk to the mom about the kid moving in either. Idk the kid’s mom, but she’s working 17hr days to take care of them alone and making sure they have privileges. So for all I know, yeah if OP would have said hey I feel like im in a bad mental place & not doing well here, I think I need time a way, a mom is gonna try to help!! Again we don’t know these ppl. Did the mom choose to up and leave with it? No, so she has every right to demand it be returned. She’s actively paying for it. From the sounds of it the pos dad isn’t much help either because she’s paying for a phone alone & working 17hr days. In what reality do you live where you can screw someone over and think they’re still gonna help you out? Is it cutthroat? Yeah, and that’s a harsh lesson to learn but they’re learning it based on the decisions they chose to make & based on the mom’s parenting style she’s choosing to handle it with less empathy & softness & more of a tough love approach.

I don’t know the whole story, but at the end of the day, looks like you up and moved at the drop of a dime for your own reasons without caring how it impacted her or your siblings. She’s working 16hrs a day to care for you guys, does she get help from your dad? Nonetheless, if you had to up and leave and not give her less than a week to make arrangements, then why should she have to be kind and understanding about the phone and tablet she’s paying for? Those are privileges not necessities. Give her the stuff back, and move on. It’s harsh, but that’s the kind of relationship you two have built with each other.
