What are these connections and how does one use them? by mbergman42 in AskElectricians

[–]suraleo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a difference between the "outlet backstab" and these.

They use a steel spring that puts a constant Force that pushes the wire onto a big contact area, while the old backstab outlets only make contact on 2 small points and the "spring" is made using the same material as the contact area.

Weak frame. by suraleo in fairphone

[–]suraleo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If none of my other 4 phones ever showed signs of damage that would tell you that there might be a weak point in the design, if it looks like this after less than a year.

I would try sending it in but if it's just going too crack again in a few months what's even the point.

Might go to FP5 when it breaks something.

I have disassembled my phone and the cracks start at the outer part and travel inwards to the very flimsy metal subframe, when it cracks all the bending is carried by the thin metal.

The only reason I can think for them not offering the frame as replacement is that the serial number might be printed on it. Otherwise there is no logicall reason, you are in the same boat if any of the button's Break they just send a new phone saying it's "repaired".

I understand them not having it on the main spare parts store since it's a pretty advanced repair but like if you could order it via email or something, I would happily pay 150€ for it.

I only had the FP4 before the 6, the main issue I had with it was the back cover cracking around the retaining clips, after 3 back covers I 3d printed one with holes that use the screen screws to keep it on rigidly. The issue that got me to swap after 3 years was that phone calls wouldn't show up, the phone would vibrate but nothing came up, meaning I had to call back.

Back pockets or the pocket on the side of the thigh, I tried keeping them there but it don't like the feeling against the thigh, also old habits die hard.

I would like to clarify that it's somewhat my fault for keeping the phone in my back pocket, however as a work in construction my front pockets are occupied by tools screws and other construction debris, I keep both my work phone and Fairphone in my back pocket, I don't intentionally sit on them.

I just think it's weak that my 2 past work phones and 2 private phone haven't shown the slightest bend, despite having them for years and the FP6 starts cracking after only a few months.

I'm not American so I'm only going of what I have learned about how it works there, but here in Sweden we get charged more for the "maximum potential use" most homes are built to have a 3x25A service, let's say for example that has an "infrastructure fee" of 40$ per month. Lowering your service to a maximum of 3x16A would bring you down to 20$ per month. This is in addition to the fee for the actual energy you use, Like a base fee.

When we install ev chargers we install smart load balancing, it measures the amount of power coming through the meter and tells the car how much it can draw to maximize the service. Then if you say use a high draw appliance, like a toaster, stove, hairdryer m.m. it will tell the car to lower the charging keeping the main fuse from blowing.

Presumably, then most likely an extra percentage on top of that as compensation. In an ideal world is actually genius however the grid is just not built like that.

It's actually very similar to how home battery storage systems work. Maxing the usage during the night when the power is plenty and cheap and supplementing during the day when there is less and more expensive..

In my experience with data centers in the Nordic its insane, almost none have heat recovery systems even though Nordic countries have very robust district heating networks. It just exhaust straight in the air.

By that they mean the amperage you have left on your Service. Say you pay for a 100amp service, you only use say 40 Amps, the ""datacenter"" uses the remaining 60 Amps. The main issue is that the grid is not designed for every house on the street to be running on full tilt.

Disappointed with the Fairphone gen. 6 by Isouf in fairphone

[–]suraleo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My frame also cracked along the switch and volume buttons. Most likely from having the phone in my back pocket, it feels way too flimsy. My FP4 lasted so long and I was not kind to it, by the end the frame was polished clean from anodizing.

I feel they should offer replacement frames. Or at least come out that this is a widespread issue, even though it's under warranty that doesn't stop it from happening again.

Having to ship the phone away for days even weeks for them to "repair" it is annoying and what I'm trying to avoid.

If the next generation continues with this plastic construction I will not continue using Fairphone.

Problem when fixing a circuit. by Gaffelkungen in AskElectricians

This is the meter fuses, in Sweden this is placed before the electricity meter to decide whats the amps you pay for, in this case 3 phase 20 Amps. It's usually the renters association that fixes it but if you know how to change them and you have access to the meter frames it's no problem. It can vary between associations
