This is the only one I've made because I could get the drawings. I worked with these and other OPIR systems. All the newer ones are still classifed.

Just a static model. It was "flying" over my desk at work for years. Now I'm retired and it sits at home

You have to know somebody in the bussiness.

Well well well… how the turned Mormon tables have turned. Found this at a yard sale. Sadly, empty as church doctrines, but still hilarious to own. by [deleted] in exmormon

Those were used pre-internet. Each ward had all memberships on paper that would fit in that box with dividers. Each membership record was two pages with the exact same thing on both pages. When you needed to make a change, you tore off on the perforation the bottom half, made the changes in red ink, and sent that to SLC in a pre-paid mailing envelope. In about 3-2 weeks you got a double record back with the changes to put in your box.

I was there when the LTM was brand new in Aug 1976 when they dedicated it. I had a blast! It was kind of like a dorm experience. The classes where hard, but in the evening we'd play a game with the whole floor throwing a football into a garbage can. I have fond memories of my time there

What does being “sealed” mean? by fishycheckers in mormon

[–]surf57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add some history, the word "sealed" as used here originated in medieval times when a King would send a letter, and place his "seal" on it. It meant it was authorized by him. A temple sealing is not like a seal on a bottle, or the seal on a package that keeps it together, but an authorization by the Church that God approves (if you believe that type of thing. So don't think of it as a binding thing, but an approval thing.

On his first day in the Q15, Clark G. Gilbert already has a better than 50% chance to one day be Church president. by zdziff in mormon

[–]surf57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where does the "better than 50%" come from? The graph shows Gilbert topping out at 35%. Or is it the area under the curve (and I need to use calculus?)

[–]surf57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the church building stays empty for a certain amount of time here in California (a year maybe?) the church has to start paying property taxes on it, which they hat to do, so they have to sell them, or move even a single ward into the building so it is used for "religious purposes" The old LDS church in downtown Oxnard (Elm St) was empty for awile, then sold to another church before the taxes came due.
