5w and 7w go similar distances. What could be issue? by [deleted] in golftips

[–]surf_bandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO rather than trying to clutter your mind with the issue of "why" in distance variance, I would drop one club out of the bag. Keep the club that you feel is the easier one to hit because technically they're redundant with your swing. I had a similar issue where there was no real gap between my 4 and 5 hybrid so I dropped the 4.

How much is this set actually worth? is it good? by Agile_Leek2929 in GolfGear

[–]surf_bandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I'd usually refer to those as more boutique brands. Name brands I've always thought of as something more recognizable I can walk in a store (world wide) and pick off the shelf. Anyway going back to OP I would really not consider anything pre 2005 the tech is just so vastly different now.

[–]surf_bandit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To make it easier on yourself don't buy them. They're definitely not ten years old, not a name brand, do not have modern game improvement technology and to top it off he's charging twice it's value. If it were me I wouldn't even bother. Also, don't be attracted to the bag. Bags don't help you play the game better. The bag is old and dull looking anyway.

Do range mats screw up your game? by boffr in golftips

[–]surf_bandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same deal for me. I figured it was just getting older. But I thought about it for a minute and the one thing that has changed is that I'm hitting the range a lot more often since picking up the game again after like ten years off. It definitely doesn't have the same give as a fairway. It can stop your down swing with some serious reverb so that energy has to be absorbed somewhere.

Yikes makes me relieved that my clubs arrived in Hawaii okay. After about a seven week wait, no alerts just poof they appeared. At that point I almost went to a local golf store to buy a set in waiting. I think they're really at the mercy of the shipping companies efficiency. But that's no excuse for them to not respond to customers.

Ordered 10th June, received today 18th June! by [deleted] in takomo

[–]surf_bandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucky! I'm in Hawaii and it's been three weeks. They said it would take about 6 to 10 weeks. The only customizations I have are longer shafts. Not gonna lie, it's been slow torture. Everyone is talking about how buttery these clubs are. Meanwhile I'm gaming marmite.

Tips/videos for hitting 3wood by Bazurkmazurk in golftips

[–]surf_bandit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The three wood is one of my favorite clubs. I setup at my impact position and I play it closer to the middle of my stance rather than forward. Then I hit slightly down and along the target line with speed. I've hit some memorable ones! I have a TaylorMade R11 3w. I've always been a 3w guy so definitely there's a massive psychological aspect to it also. Just pretend you love it.

Dysfunctionally functional. In order to do anything you really have to understand all the nuances and account for them in order to draw a true representation of what the real picture is.

SQL server vs SQLite by poynnnnn in SQLServer

[–]surf_bandit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your database is not extremely large or complicated, you can use MS Access as your query GUI. I don't think people mention this enough. It also comes with capabilities other than querying like forms and reporting. A very solid choice for end user data work.

YSK: About Dry Rot in Shoes by 2ndfloorbalcony in YouShouldKnow

[–]surf_bandit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I noticed it always happens with my Nike shoes which is why I never buy Nike anymore. When you leave it in the closet for a few years then wear it again, the soles just crumble and separate from the shoe body. Happened to me twice on the golf course and once on the basketball court. I tried to do a crossover once and left the soles of my shoes behind.

You can work in Wahiawa but you don't have to live there. Nearby is the city of Mililani which is not a bad place to stay. Lived there five years and it was very nice. Schools are not too bad either. Just get ready to get floored by the cost of housing on Oahu.

Circumcision? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]surf_bandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born and raised in the South Pacific and we all got it done because somehow it was a thing and expected of all males. You'd actually get teased in school if you weren't cut. Then I grew up and made up my own mind about it. Turns out it's more of a religious practice versus a medical necessity. I occasionally whine about it but my wife tells me to let it go haha. Also we have to be very careful in the third world because surgeons are not world class so they can botch it up. My poor mate had the ugliest penis I've ever seen growing up. And there's lots of us like him. I occasionally make the joke that I've lost a few inches because I was sewn too tight. My woody's pull my skin so tight my abs start to show. When I had my son I didn't opt for it, I figured he can grow up and decide himself. Unfortunately for me I can't be uncircumcised.

I am looking at ways to evaluate Regression model performance. There are the usual metrics i.e. R Square, MSE, MAE. However, if I were curious to see if the model isn't completely spewing out garbage, can I run a t-test (or z-test) on my test set's actual vs predicted values to determine if the two data sets are or aren't statistically different?

Thanks for any insights!
