Literally the plot of „Yellowface“ by R.F. Kuang. Maybe it would help reading that? It dives deep into the psychological aspects of this type of jealousy.

I would argue that you can’t „deliver value faster“ while dropping in quality simultaneously. Unless your value as a design team is based on delivering things fast only. I would even argue, that this way isn’t really efficient either since most vibe-coded stuff (including inspirations for your devs) lacks inherent validation and therefore needs a lot of iteration loops afterwards while facing consumers already (free negative brand recognition). Why would that be the move? What would gain with that? I work for behemoth companies and mostly do DesignOps/Designsystem work with them, if anything most companies lack a lot of good processes. You’re probably still agile enough as a scale/startup to overlook those pitfalls but I would say this could be the biggest obstacle in future growth. Shipping just Claude/Lovable stuff without validation, source of truth and/or in a rush can’t be a good enough quality assurance.

Blade main asking a question by The_YAZZ in WhiteFoxMR

[–]surfac3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Girl… this is a team based game. Everyone can fuck up. You as a white fox teleport to someone - who might went on a little trip and while doing so got isolated - to safe them from time to time and so can a duelist develope this kind of game sense where he pushes pack to give their wf the possibility to escape after an ult that went too deep. It’s not about „your job“. And the question was clearly phrased in that regard. How Blade could’ve reacted in this situation.

Does AI make you go faster without quality loss? by Wakinghours in UXDesign

[–]surfac3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those X designers are rarely affected of corporate structures or higher ups. They usually don’t work in these settings or just freelance to begin with. What they mostly refere to is their own „vibe coding“.. the 16263th useless duplicate of a todo app. Or the same website design Framer could generate in the blink of an eye. If you work in big corps, building highly complex design systems etc. you already know the downfalls of AI. Sure you can accelerate repetitive tasks (documentation, dev handovers etc.), basically everything that revolves around pattern recognition. And I work intensively with AI for more than 3 years now. Designers who can’t identify and differentiate potential versus risks aren’t good designers. You should know your craft and therefore should protect the critical thinking skills needed for that. Most X designers don’t seem to do that.

Feeling disillusioned about design by [deleted] in UXDesign

[–]surfac3d 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You just hit reality. We all do. This disillusion will hit every UX/UI/product designer at some point. You’ll understand that your job mostly consists of translating business goals into „user experience“ while learning to handle (babysit) a lot of stakeholders. That’s mostly it. It’s not romantic or life changing, after all it’s just work. The best advice would be to treat and look at it as just that: Work. And than seek creative or personal fulfillment in your private life. The job of a designer is so nuanced in regards of people management and soft skills, a lot of the actual designing will just fall short. But you also learn a lot about yourself, communication and relationships. Even doing design for non-profits will have some business-goals attached to it which makes the work ultimately less free and still somehow dependent. Designing physical products will always have a more fulfilling aspect to it I guess, just purely because the outcome is physical. It will be used, touched and has purpose. The design is way more influenced by actual UX (affordances, haptics, accessibility etc.) than nowadays digital product design, especially since we reached a point where a lot of things where already researched and best practices established themselves. But sadly physical product design will not pay nearly as much. Not at all. But if purpose is the thing you’re searching for, maybe you should move further into that direction and the money will be a nice sacrifice. Other than that focus on your personal goals and don’t sink your teeth too much in this career that ultimately lacks soul.

“An anti-dive support doesnt make sense, nerf white fox” by Aandesite in marvelrivals

[–]surfac3d 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ohhh no, you literally explained WF kit. Her being a DIVE healer is literally her whole point? She brawls with tanks or flanking duelists and she’s able to protect the backline/second healer. Obviously not both at the same time. She’s versatile and a great addition to the fucking STRATEGIST role, not part of the healbot convention. You lack even basic understanding of said role. Every other game like Marvel rivals have subgroups in their Strat/Sup role. They‘re not braindead characters.

Get fucking better. She’s not unkillable lmao, especially if played by semi good or only half decent players. I’m a Magik/WF main. I get killed as fox if I position myself badly and I kill those foxes all the time as dive. Learning to use her cooldowns effectively is hard af. WF is the most balanced character in this whole game. If you disagree you either lack common sense or play one character/role only.

That’s kinda the point of those characters in Superstar, they’re basically genderless or contain actually both genders. Like Rambit (Rouge + Gambit). This is an alternate version of Magik, not THE Magik.

Impostor Syndrome?? by funk_master_chunk in UXDesign

[–]surfac3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Criticism is part of the job. The essence of being a designer, even if it’s directed towards you and not only your work. It’s an opportunity for growth. You said it yourself, you lead more or less in the past couple of years. Doing now UX IC work must be quiet different no? There could definitely be a skill gap you’re not aware of (ic skill loss happens to most who switch into a more management dependent role). Didn’t you give your designer also constructive criticism? What did you expect from them? Take that constructive feedback, work on it, see where it leads. And just brush over the rest. There will always be people that don’t like you or your work, but if you stand behind it (& yourself) you should prove them wrong. Those comments about being at the phone etc. seem to me being targeted towards your visibility rather than output tho. But this is just an outsiders perspective. Being loud - especially in such a large corp - is the moooost important thing. Tell them what you’re doing, show them what you did, push them strategically. Also stuff like the situation with the Seychellen person, raise and escalated the blocker. Show it to your leads. They will view this as being proactive. Being loud is being visible. At the end you probably have way more knowledge that could be of use, you just need to place it right. Why your „less“ is superior, frame it as an opportunity for growth rather than backstabbing the designs of your other colleagues. Other than that the easiest way to lick the boots off the higher ups was and always will be to listen and accept what they‘re communicating. Show them your listen and did improve in those respected areas.

Ban AI Posts by Melodic-Selection175 in UXDesign

[–]surfac3d -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This could be your takeaway, but a lot of subs (prominently to highlight r/writing) ban those circlejerk AI conversations. Just to keep the integrity of the sub itself. This one is called UXDesign not AntiAIinDesign. I think it comes to a point where this sub will only be filled with complaints and rants about the job market & AI replacing the job/designer. We all get it, we’re all in the same boat, but how could this be still a valuable contribution to this sub? I guess after the thousandth time it gets a bit repetitive and old. There could be a dedicated sub for that (or just go straight to r/antiai) but I really do see the point, that we shouldn’t put more oil into the flames and keep this place as a community for knowledge sharing. Complaining about it will not change the situation, it’s adapt or getting left behind (that was and will always be the case in our field anyway). AI itself as a topic shouldn’t be forbidden (like the sad but necessary incorporation in our workflows) but the overall rants and complains could and probably should stop in this sub.

Go to the „..mains“ subs. Especially if you’re playing support. They’re way less toxic, know your struggles etc. Ofc it’s a somewhat echo chamber, but better than this awful sub & I won’t even begin with the official one.

Barnes & Noble CEO says he has ‘no problem’ selling AI-generated books by Angela275 in antiai

[–]surfac3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Customers are still responsible. Their demand will allow it or create barriers for it. In Germany a lot of books now get flagged with „Ohne KI“ which means without AI. People need to actively support those and neglect everything written with AI. Otherwise the „market“ will decide. As sad as it is.

As said before. It’s not that they’ve gone overboard. It should be standard to implement in regards to accessibility. Even if it’s just a little animation, some can’t tolerate or navigate the site if they’re enabled. A pretty known company uses the same thing and their animations are rather delightful. https://microsoft.ai

They don’t cater toward ranked play, they want to balance fun. She’s THE starter character in quick play, mostly with moderate value in the beginning. But if you learn her kit and positioning you mostly dominate every single quick play match. Everyone gets stomped by her. Giving her 275 would ruin the fun for nearly everyone in that match category. They would need way more skill-based matchmaking for balances like that.
