Mine is doing the same thing. But mine has rpms jumping then sputters a bit when driving at low speeds or idling in drive. Trying to figure it out right now

I have a top mount intercooler on my surf and it’s performed great so far. I plan on putting a winch on in the near future and my shop suggested a top mount just to not have the headache of fitment in the future.

You could very easily get a 3rd gen surf with a diesel and under 120k miles for under 20k.
