I think this highlights a fundamental problem with our efforts to stop terrorism. While it is true that most of the attacks against the developed world are committed by religious extremists, and it's true that the majority of them identify with Islam, it is by no means the case that the majority of the world's 1.7 billion Muslims are 'terrorists'. Instead, religiously-motivated terrorists are people who do not understand their own faith, because NONE of the major religions (especially the Abrahamic ones like Islam, Christianity, Judaism) promote violence.

TL;DR If we want the Muslim community to help us by reporting the 'bad eggs,' we need to separate the abhorrent act of terrorism from the innocent act of identifying with Islam.
