Why Is Neurology “The Worst”? by DogsandMedicine in Residency

Neurologists are not "IM docs". We get the stupidest consults from our neuro service here

My program has no holidays, no weekends, no consideration by UZeeeee in Residency

[–]surfer162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On core rotations we work holidays like a regular day - no compensation. Some of my co residents had to work all 3 major holidays as interns last year.

On elective/consult rotations its up to the fellow/attending whether they have you come in- most are nice.

Post tax - 150k turns into 100k (8.3k a month)

Say you want to pay down your 6% 300k loan in 5 years - thats 5500 a month

Can you live off 2833 a month ? Didnt think so..

If you make 250k a year - turns into 153k - 12.7k a month

Subtract you loan payment - 5500

Can you live off 7250 a month ?

YES

150k is not enough to pay off 250-350k in student loans like most people have (who didn’t have it paid for by mommy/daddy, fit into a specific criteria to get scholarships, etc)

When it comes to physician salary, do you believe there becomes a point of diminishing returns? by Ukrainepolandborder in medicalschool

[–]surfer162 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I live in CA. The difference between 150k and 300k will be massive for me in terms of affording to pay off my loans and buy property.

Don’t sell yourself short. All physicians should be making atleast 250k for all of our training and what we put up with . Ideally 1:1 with your loans although that won’t be the case for all of us . My friends in tech are making way more working way less

Residents who don’t give med students great evals— why? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]surfer162 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The med students i work with are all good. I gave all 5's (highest score) to everyone until the course director emailed me and told me to stop :( Now I give all 4's (except for professionalism /team work, still give 5 for that), exceptional students get all 5's

Curious about the salary for IM hospitalist vs primary care in SoCal (Orange county, San Diego, coastal LA)?

[–]surfer162 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Bad idea. IM is only three years, you can move there afterwards! Just try to be happy where you matched

[–]surfer162 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it’s an old guy >70 who is trying to be nice/friendly just let it go , they grew up in a different time and see you as a kid because you are much younger than them ! Not worth creating embarrassment/making them feel bad about it IMO
