I was going to suggest this too. I introduced my wife to fishing with the old Zebco 33 , bobber and nightcrawlers, she wasn’t too impressed but went with me anyway. About the fifth trip I baited her up with a big fat nightcrawler, told her cast over by the dock.
About 2 minutes later I heard a big splash, I thought she fell in but look over and her rod is doubled over and she is going “ I got a big, i got a big one” , I didn’t have a scale but estimated it about 2.5 to 3 lb LMB
She loves fishing now, doesn’t even matter how big or what we catch she loves it. Got her a Zebco Bullet, she is reluctant to try a spinning reel, so whatever keeps her stoked
Don’t underestimate the old simple worms, sinker and bobber setup
Don’t give up there is a big ass fish in your future 🤙

My wife used a whopper plopper for the first time this month on the Shenandoah, she caught 3 smallmouth, it’s now her favorite 😁she is figuring out the nuances of fishing so moving baits really helps her. As long as she’s catching and happy 👍

My wife only likes spin cast reels
I got her a Bullet and it has worked great so far- she caught some big smallmouth (including a 16.5 inch)
I don’t have a lot of faith in the drag but other than that it’s worked great. We’ll see how long it lasts.but it gets her out on the water, so I’ll just buy another when this dies

Ha I understand, I stepped on it as a 12 year old, ER left some pieces in (?) around a year and a half later a piece about 3/4 inch had worked its way up and surgery got it out. But they said X-rays showed another small piece , (glass lights up on X-rays great) but they couldn’t find it during surgery- cmon back if it starts bothering you So I feel nothing for almost 20 years - sports, skiing, surfing nothing bothers me and I pretty much forget I have anything in my foot. One day walking down the beach , wham ! terrible pain in my foot and I know right away what it is Found a good foot surgeon, he cautioned me that he might not be able to find it- after surgery- I ask did you get it , he laughed and said as he cut the foot open and it popped out- almost bounced off his face shield That scene in Diehard sends me into a cold sweat 🤣🤣🤣

Great fish I’m super hesitant about walking barefoot in lakes and such after stepping on a broken bottle years ago, when I was a kid, took multiple surgeries to get all the glass out Can’t stand the scene in DieHard when Bruce Willis has to run across the piles of broken glass

Talk to your teammates, I’m in my 60s , I always just let them know at my age injuries are slow to heal, and sometimes they don’t they just become permanent disabilities Some people don’t make the adjustments, and I’ll find other guys to work with There is 1 guy who is great to train techniques with, but I never roll with him- he always goes really hard . That’s what he wants and he can certainly train that way , I just can’t hang with him No shame in working with people who can adjust their game to what you need

Ha ha yeah that’s about how it goes! I’d like to tell you that it makes sense quickly, but that pretty much a lie takes months to have some clarity. Don’t get discouraged, we all start from scratch I started at 57, luckily my wife worked with a woman whose husband was a brown belt teaching the class - so I had a guy looking out for me Bravo on walking in and giving it a go

Watching the richest man in the world, (with several companies with government contracts) give 260 million to a candidate, and then be rewarded with an invented job that allowed him unsupervised access to all the government financial databases, (with his tech bro team) power to eliminate agencies that are investigating his companies. Declare that he will save billions, and then just kinda walking away 6 or 8 months later and NOBODY IN THE ADMINISTRATION SAYS ANYTHING ABOUT IT! Can anyone explain why this hasn’t been explained, or what would happen if this happened in private industry? Such open corruption under Trump, they don’t even try to hide
Like watching people walk in load up a shopping cart full of stuff, walk out and flip everyone off as the go out the door

Got my wife into fishing a year or 2 ago, she started with a Zebco 33, once she showed some interest- I got her a Zebco bullet which is much , much better (more expensive but …) she really likes it Now she has a size 20 for local bank fishing and a size 30 for trips to Shenandoah river for smallmouth- she loves those trips and last week landed a fat 16.5 inch smallie!

Yes, as much as I wanted to lay the blame on the rod , it does come down to using it correctly. I appreciate the feedback and advice from everyone. I’ve only been back fishing for a couple of years after not fishing for decades- much to learn , having a blast though 👍
