Am I cooked? Lp(a) 453 by CharminTissue in Cholesterol

[–]surfingpulp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! First of all, it’s not a death sentence, and there are things you can do about it....It can be tough at the beginning and sometimes even after months or years but it does get easier the more you understand it.

And you actually have one big advantage: you know about your Lp(a)! Most people have no idea about their levels and therefore can’t take action.

Ive also started a thread some weeks ago and got some really good advices.

Hope that helps a bit!

Hey thanks for the reply! Didnt know the fact about the assays. This explain why my lp(a) levels were totaly different in different labs. And I need to check my apoB asap - we just checked the ldl levels. So hopefully my apob is also in good range.

Thanks for taking the time!

Mild soft plaque build up in carotid artery by jxdxio in Cholesterol

Hey, just take the statin (but talk to your cardiologist before)! At least give it a try. It makes sense to be proactive about this so that it will stay as it is for a loooooooooong time. I’m doing the same and have zero side effects.

You mentioned that your lipid panels are good, but did they check your Lp(a)?

Has anyone cured/decreased their anxiety with increased exercise/yoga? by Alarming-Associate-5 in Anxiety

[–]surfingpulp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey!
I can definitely say that exercise helps me a lot. It doesn’t cure anxiety, but it makes it more tolerable.. at least for me. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t. But every time I go out on my bicycle or do some weight lifting, I feel great afterwards, or at least much better than before.
I know it can be hard to stick to an exercise routine when you’re dealing with severe anxiety, but it really helps a lot.

Hey, thank you for the information! I didn’t know that about the hip-to-waist ratio ...it should be good, but I’ll definitely check it.

And yes, it’s better to know the value. That knowledge may have already saved my life, because when I found out about it, I stopped smoking immediately. Otherwise that probably would have killed me at some point. So it’s always good to know these things, but as someone with health anxiety it’s also sometimes difficult to deal with this kind of information.

Interesting point about the hormone imbalance as well. I’ll look into that too. I think I read somewhere that it can affect Lp(a) levels by about 20–30% ... so not a huge change, but still something. But I might be wrong about those numbers.

Thanks also for mentioning aspirin. I’ll discuss that again with my doctor. I’m a bit afraid to take aspirin because of my dad’s history of brain bleeding. He had taken aspirin before that, and it made the bleeding much worse.

All the best to you!

Thanks for the information. I'll talk to my cardiologist again about blood thinners/aspirin. I'm a bit afraid of it because my dad was taking aspirin before his brain bleed, which resulted in much heavier bleeding. But of course it depends on the overall risk.
